Princeville Resort questions

Spending 6 nights in Kauai in a couple months and I was leaning towards splitting time between the Hyatt and Princeville Resort, but now may stay at Hyatt and visit Princeville area. I've been reading that some rooms at the Princeville were damp and moldy, and my fiancee is quite sensitive to those odors. Has anyone been there recently that can address this?

I can 't address the moldy rooms, but I like your plan. I should add that the older i get, the less i like moving around from one hotel to another. I like "nesting" in a home base during a tripfrom a home base. It's not a long drive from Hyatt to No SHore--maybe an hour?? We easily and painlessly made the trip to Ke Tunnels and Hanalei twice during our last stay. There's stunning scenery to see on the drive. You'll love the Hyatt; it's defnitely the sunnier side of the island. They have a bar where jazz is played (Stevenson LIbrary) a gorgeous open air lobby where hula is performed some evenings, aside from the beautiful grounds. Yu are also closer to the Waimea Canyon/ Kokee end of the island.

Ahh... the Hyatt!
Your plan is a good one. Set aside at least a few days to hang out at the resort and enjoy the gorgeous facilities. We spent 7 days there after exploring the island for a week and hardly ever left. We had great massages at Anara Spa this past summer. Very nice.

I would definately stay at the Hyatt. My husband and I stayed at Princeville for our honeymoon for 6 nights (2 yrs ago, October)...Princeville is on the "rainy side" of the Island, and it did rain several days while we were there- and we drove to the other side of the island and it was sunny! Also, there is nothing within walking distance of Princeville. We rented a car, but every time you wanted to eat a meal you had to drive somewhere or you were paying top dollar at Princeville.

Hi sonnygen. For what it's worth, I'm in a similar situation. From what I've read, Princeville area is beautiful. I've decided to split my time between Princeville resort and Hyatt, perhaps getting the best of both worlds. A little rain won't hurt for a few days.

Both have much to offer. Poipu area has become a little over built. I have been going to Kauai for 20 years and loved Poipu when there weren't so many hotels, condos and when I could walk over the hill to an empty beach that is now the Hyatt. We have fallen in love with the North Shore which is still more low key. The Hyatt, however, is the best - old hawaii feel in a new building. Even though I miss the open feeling that was at the beach before the Hyatt, it is beautiful. Can't imagine that the Princeville Hotel has moldy rooms but if you don't want to take the chance try another hotel or condo in the Princeville area..there are several.

Do make an effort to have dinner at the Princeville if you don't stay there. It truly is one of the most breathtaking views I've ever seen. The views are the best thing about the Princeville. The lobby is fantastic, but the pool/beach area is a bit sparse.

I went to Kauai in March and stayed in Princeville. It rained every day, and we ended up driving down to get to the sun. We had previously made reservations for horseback riding, and it was miserable in the rain. Although, because we were already wet, we did not hesitate to jump into the waterfalls. I would recommend staying at the Hyatt, and just taking a day trip up there.
