PriceLine Las Vegas Strip?

My husband and I will be ending our week-long vacation with 2 nights in Las Vegas. We would like to stay at one of the better hotels on The Strip. I have heard you can get a good deal on PriceLine but have never used it. We need a room for Oct 10th and 11th. I need some advice on the when to bid (now or in the Fall?) and how much to bid, etc.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Kate is right...biddingfortravel.com is a great site
Plus, check out the individual hotel websites....they run some good promotions.
If this is Columbus Day Weekend...beware, its crowded and pricey in Vegas!
Have fun...but remember you are going on prime nights..Friday and Saturday!!

Generally speaking, priceline is no good for Vegas. The rates are cheap enough, priceline doesn't really compete with the hotel specials. The only exception is Venetian which is the only strip "5*" in the priceline system, and it can sometimes be had for ,$100/nt for Sun-Thurs, I haven't seen any winning weekend bids. Also, I think the Venetian deals come up last minute, maybe 2 weeks ahead of time at best. Also be aware that the week after 10/11 is a fairly high convention load so a lot of people will bookend personal vacations so rates may get a little high that weekend. I would book a cancellable reservation now, and keep checking prices to cancel it for something better.

I see those dates are Friday and Saturday night. Most good priceline deals are for weekdays so don't get your hopes up. Rates in general are higher on the weekends. It can't hurt to try priceline but first check rates on some of the internet booking sites (like Expedia). Also check some hotel websites for their rates and call the hotels directly (asking for whatever special rates they may have). LV hotels rates change all the time so you have to cross-reference various sources to make sure you're getting the best.

Here's a discussion on why Priceline not that great for Las Vegas:

You may consider Hotwire if you think you can figure out the hotel before purchase.

Marcia, I just called to ask the Venetian if they would match the rates we were paying at Treasure Island ($199 Sat, $89 Sun), which they did. But, I decided to try Priceline instead and my initial bid for $120/night was accepted for Oct 4th and 5th at the Venetian. Good luck!

Hipvirgochick, Thanks for the info. You got a great deal!! Unfortunately the days we will be in Vegas turn out to be Columbus Day weekend and I don't think the hotels are going to be giving any deals. We are staying at Bally's which is a good, mid-strip location for us. Thanks again for thinking of me. Have a great time!!!

It appears now that the 2nd tower has opened there is more availibility on Priceline further out. You may still want to give it a try when the dates approach. Also, try funjetvacations.com which seems to beat the casinos a lot, I think Wynn resorts turn up for a lot less and has worked for me in the past.
