What in specific did you want to know? My sister lives there; I've visited many times, but have never been to the mounds. Wyalusing State Park in WI, just east of PDC, is a nice place to hike. It overlooks the Mississippi river and is very scenic.
As for the town of PDC, I can't say much in its favor, especially since I'm kind of anti-small town (I live in Chicago).
If you have any specific questions I can call my sister and see if she has any recommendations.

Nelle,
If you go to the park, I would recommend packing a picnic lunch. Sit and enjoy the view -- the trees should look good in October!
If you prefer to eat out, the only place near the park is a tavern right outside the entrance. You can't miss it; it's called Come Back Inn or something like that, but really it's the only thing in the area.
In PDC itself there's the standard fare; Culvers, Pizza Hut, McD, and a variety of local diners.
Enjoy!
