Port Canaveral Side Trip???

We're coming back from a cruise into Port Canaveral and have about 6 hours until we fly out of Orlando. Any suggestions on what we could see in Orlando or Port Canaveral and transportation there and to the airport? Thanks for your help!

When I took a cruise, it took quite a while from the time the ship docked until you were able to get off. I am not sure 6 hours is enough to do anything. After our cruise, we just took our time getting off the boat, had breakfast in the dining room, and made it to the airport with plenty of time to spare.

Yes, we were allowing three hours for all that - but we still have another six hours before flight time! We are even considering trying to rent a car for the day to see a little of Orlando. But don't know if we can rent a car at Port Canaveral or whether we would have to go to the airport to get a car which would use some of time. Any suggestions from someone who has done something like this?

I'm sure you can rent a car at Port Canaveral but don't really know what kind of activity you're looking for in Orlando. Are you thinking about going to a theme park for a few hours? Orlando itself is nothing special.

We went to Cape Canaveral after leaving our cruise which was very close by--you may even be able to take the taxi. They have improved the exhibits over the years. There is an IMAX theater showing movies. Don't know if any of that would interest you. It did take us several hours to go through all the exhibits but it is self-guided. There are alligators, huge eagle's nest, and other wildlife creatures all along the open highways free for the viewing too. We were just there second week this January.
