transportation from Orlando airport to Pt. Canaveral
My son & his fiance have been given a cruise (only--no air) for Royal Caribbean out of Port Canaveral.
What is the most efficient way monetarily & time-wise to get back & forth between the 2 destinations? I know when you buy the whole package you get a ticket for a shuttle, but this isn't the case. Is there someplace one can buy these? All info appreciated--with the exception of flying into another airport.
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm a travel agent, and I would definitely recommend buying the airport transfers from the cruise line. They are usually really affordable. Then, the cruise line reps meet them in baggage claim, take care of all of the luggage, do all of the driving (it is 45 minutes to an hour from Orlando to Pt. Canaveral) and put the luggage in their stateroom. Otherwise, they have to take extra time to get the rental car, drive out on the toll-roads between Orlando and Pt. Canaveral, lug their luggage onto the ship.
Be sure that they arrive into Orlando before noon on the day of their cruise departure and schedule their return flights for a time after noon. They might also consider arriving a day early because it is much more relaxed and they don't have to worry about flight delays.
Best Regards,
Julia

I am not a travel agent and I think it depends on how many are traveling and how much flexibility you want.
There are any number of shuttle services from Orlando to the Port. Most will charge around $90 one-way for a Town Car. The cruise line transfers are $30 per person one-way. If there are three or more in your party, I think the town car is the way to go. You don't have to wait for the cruise line's bus to fill up before you leave for the port. This same flexibility would apply to two people and perhaps make the extra $30 worth it.

We've done the round trip bus transfer on RCCL and its $39 round trip per person. Don't have to reserve it ahead of time. You can just walk up after you get your luggage and pay for the round trip - they will charge it to your sign and sail card so you don't need cash right then.
I would recommend going in the day before just so you have absolutely no chance of missing the cruise. Flights on cruise day can be delayed for any number of reasons and you don't want the added stress of worrying about missing the cruise! You can find a pretty decent hotel near the airport that has a free shuttle. We've done that, and the next day just took the shuttle back to the airport and got on the RCCL transfer to the ship. Very easy. But as someone else said, you do have to wait for the transfer to fill up before they will leave, but it usually doesn't take too long.
