Planning San Francisco to Seattle trip

Hi! We are arriving in SFO saturday july 16 at 3pm. We depart from SEA monday july 25 at 8am. We would like to rent a sports car or SUV to do the drive up to Seattle. We would like to stay in San Francisco and Seattle 1 or 2 days (each) for rest, shopping and sightseeing. For the road, we are looking for the scenic routes, I like driving on the coast, and also national parks or whatever is unmissable. Can you help us with the route, places to visit and cities to sleep please?

My favorite scenic experiences between San Francisco and Seattle are the redwoods of northern California, the Oregon coast, the Columbia River gorge, and Mt. Rainier.

Here's a pretty high speed route that still touches some highlights. Several of the days involve considerable driving.

Route - https://goo.gl/maps/ZxuF7bFsxEy

16-Jul SF
17-Jul SF
18-Jul SF to Trinidad CA (redwoods)
19-Jul Trinidad to Newport OR (redwoods and coast)
20-Jul Newport to Hood River (via Columbia Gorge)
21-Jul Hood River to Mt. Rainier (via Maryhill and US 97)
22-Jul Mt. Rainier to Seattle
23-Jul SEA
24-Jul SEA
25-Jul Dep. SEA

This will include the redwoods on the California coast, the most scenic parts of the Oregon coast, the Columbia River Gorge, and Mount Rainier National Park, accessed via the east side of the Cascades. This route offers terrific diversity and some splendid "road trip" highways.

An SUV will be more appropriate and cheaper than a sports car for this route, but you'll still be paying a premium for a one-way rental.

Thanks happytrailstoyou and Gardyloo!

I had already read your comments from January of last year for a similar trip Gardyloo. Thank you for your detailed comments for my trip. I appreciate the Google maps link. How do you get the link when you are using Google maps?

I will review your trip suggestions and write back with comments or doubts.

At the top left of the screen (on PCs, don't know if it works on mobile devices) there's a pull-down menu. One of the items is "share or embed map" which will give you a long url, and an option to shorten it.
