Hi! My family of five (3 kids ages 16, 13, and 10) are on a cross country trip in a 28-foot RV (no extra get around car). We arrive in Los Angeles on 7/3 and leave on 7/5. On our wish list for things to do: Hollywood sign, Hollywood stars (on the sidewalk), Venice Beach (boardwalk) and Universal Studios. We are trying to figure out which RV park it makes the most sense for us to stay in and what order we should do these activities in based on location. If there is an RV park accessible to public transportation that can get us to these places, we'd be glad to do that. Or if it is easy enough to get around in the RV and there are good places to park near each of these locations, we'd be fine with that too. We're not familiar with L.A. and are a little nervous about trying to get around in an R.V. there without knowing if there's parking nearby.

You may have to change your plans. There are not many RV parks near Los Angeles....the most popular one is at the beach and there's no way they'll have a space for you on such short notice in the middle of a holiday weekend.

It would be best to find an "RV forum" in which to ask your question.

Where are you headed on 7/5? That will be a very heavy traffic morning all around Los Angeles as people head back to work after the long holiday weekend.

Apparently you can park in the city of Burbank for up to 72 hrs with a permit. You would have to purchase your permit online and find a place where you can print it. (Burbank libraries will be closed July 3 & 4). Note that you cannot park within 80 feet of an intersection.

Burbank is just north of Hollywood and there is infrequent bus service (every hour) down to Hollywood. Or there is car rental service at Burbank airport.

There is a huge parking lot at Hollywood and Highland but no idea if that garage has high clearance for an RV, could not tell from their website. The Walk of Fame, Chinese Theater, etc. are right there and it is one stop on the metro to the Universal Stop.

Otherwise Debbie had a good suggestion of parking the RV someplace and renting a car, RVs are just not city friendly. She is also right there is no way you are getting a space at Dockweiler RV Park, it is hugely popular.

Read up on Venice, the medical marijuana culture there is quite pervasive. Santa Monica might be nicer for your family.

Thanks all. We are in Vegas today and are planning to get up really early tomorrow to head to Universal Studios. From there, we are going to the Malibu RV Park. It's a little out of the way, but had nice reviews and we'll be in a good place to hit the road on 7/5. We're planning to drive up the coast to San Francisco...stopping overnight somewhere along the way.

It doesn't look like it will be too expensive to take Uber to Santa Monica, so we'll probably plan on doing something like that. Thanks for the tip on Venice vs. Santa Monica.

Appreciate all the great suggestions. I should have planned a little further in advance and tried the Burbank permit!!!

Have you made a reservation at the Malibu RV Park? It is more than a little out of the way, but I don't see any other option. The drive from Universal Studios to Malibu at the end of a very long day will be slow.

Santa Monica is hugely popular on July 4th, and it will be jammed all day. Uber from the RV Park to the SM Pier could take nearly an hour assuming the driver can even get close to the Pier that day.

FYI, there's a nice hike in the Santa Monica Mountains that starts very near the RV Park. Take water and a camera.

You may need to spend two nights if you drive Highway 1 since an RV travels slower than a car and speed limits are low in some places from Cambria to Carmel.
Also be aware of the law that if 5 or more cars are behind you, you must pull over at the next available turnout to let them pass you.
