Philadelphia: Hotels close to Historic Area

I'm looking for recommendations on hotels that are close to the historic area (Independence Hall, Liberty Bell). Walking a few blocks isn't an issue. Thanks in advance for your input!

So much depends, of course, on your budget and preferences. You could stay anywhere from the Penn's Landing hotels to the ones up near City Hall and be within walking distance not only of the historic sites but also many other great places. There's a list of "Historic District" hotels here that you might want to look at, and then maybe ask about specific ones that fit your taste/budget: http://www.gophila.com/C/X/123/Place...otels/414.html

However, if you don't mind a bit of walking, your area could stretch much further than this and still be walkable; Philadelphia is a very walkable city.

check out the Holiday Inn Express midtown. Easy walk to historic district, pretty good rates and a good hot breakfast. Also close to several restaurants.

Yk and Amy: I checked out gophila.com prior to posting and reviewed it again. We usually stay at Marriott properties. It looks like the Penn's Landing area is closer to Liberty Bell and all than the Downtown Marriott which is at 1201 Market St. Thanks for the info.

Penn's Landing is a bit closer; the Downtown Marriott, though, gives you access to the Reading Terminal market, Chinatown restaurants, City Hall, and so forth. So really it depends how long you'll be there and what you have in mind to do.

Here's a walking tour that starts in Penn's Landing and takes in a lot of the historic sites:

Happy travels!

Just saw this post and wanted to mention that if you stay in the Marriott near The Reading Terminal-which is very cool. There is a trolley loop bus that stops at all of the historic attractions. You can get on & off anytime. So-FYI in thinking thru your hotel. If you like ice cream--definatley Frankl9in Fountain. Cool Mexican-El Vez--sorry- off on a foodie tangent.
Enjoy your stay-it's a fun city but be alert of your surroundings.
