But just how early is early to get to Pearl Harbor. Gonna go on a Sunday so we can also take in the swap meet.

It opens at 7:30. 8:00 is a good time to get there.

Try to e-mail (or call) a few tour companies to ask them what time their tours are. You can do a search: Arizona Memorial tour

Ask them what time they leave Waikiki and what time they get to the AZ Memorial.

If you are driving, then you'll know what time you should leave to get there ahead of the tours. It's about 25 minutes from Waikiki.

I'd go as early as you can, so it will still be fairly early in the morning by the time you get to the swap meet. You don't want to be at the swap meet too late in the day because of the heat. The swap meet is pretty big and you'll be doing a lot of walking outside.

Did I read or dream that you should wear closed toed shoes when you go to the Arizona Memorial?

EARLY.

The earlier the better. The later you wait, the longer the lines and you run the chance of not getting in that day at all.

We also had traffic problems, but you shouldn't if you are going on a Sunday.

I always tell friends going to Oahu, "do it your first day there, your body is still on east coast time." First day there, you are up bright and early, get out the door and be the first in line.

I've never heard about the closed toe shoe thing. I can't imagine why you would need closed toe shoes.
Starrville is right in that the later you go, the more crowded it will be too.
