Paris Bistros in New York

My husband and I will be in N.Y.C. this July for one week. We love French food, and are wondering if anyone has suggestions for moderate(25.00 dollars or less) restaurants or bistros. Any area of the city is fine. We are staying in midtown west. Thank-you for all your kind help!

Our alltime favorite is Les Halles. It is a French bistro and butcher shop. Wonderful steak au poivre and mussels with frites. I think it should meet your cost requirements, although you might be tight if you have wine.

Oh, another idea that is somewhat cheaper is La Tour on the Upper East Side -- 3rd Ave and 75th or so. They have an "all you can eat" mussels and frites special and a very inexpensive wine list.

I should have said that Les Halles is on Park Ave in the 20's.

Try Jules on St. Marks btwn 1st and 2nd Ave in the East Village. Definitely fits your price range.

One of the best restaurant values in NY is a small place on the East Side called La Mangeoire at 2nd Avenue and 53rd Street. The food is usually excellant and they have a really nice fixed price menu that offers good value. Price wise, it should be exactly what you're looking for.

I should add that the room is nicely decorated and the owner is always pleasant and attentive.
