Overnight in Las Vegas

We are spending a night in LV and will be arriving late afternoon. We have two teenagers and a ten year old . Would be interested in feedback on affordable places to eat and see some sights/entertainment. We'll be staying at Circus Circus. Wondered what type of a place that is?
Any suggestions for a family of five would be appreciated!

How committed are you to Circus Circus?

I would encourage you to consider changing that. Check into the Excalibur (kid popular) or Monte Carlo if you want quieter. From there you have better access to cool stuff and the location is better as is the view.

What cool stuff?
Roller coaster and ESPNzone at NYNY.
Lion Habitat at MGM.
Mall wandering at Aladdin.
Outside kid friendly attractions at NYNY and Luxor.
Lance Burton puts on a great family magic show at the Monte Carlo.
Several of those places have arcades if that matters to you.
To stand on the corner of Tropicana and the Strip at night is to see Vegas in all its glory after dark..not the same from CC area. CC bills itself as a kid type of place but it fails IMHO on the sights/entertainment aspect...except for the arcade/dome area that is not worth it for a one night visit.

Just my opinion based on several trips, 2 with teenagers.

Happytrip,

Have you read any reviews on Circus, Circus? Agree with placeu2 concerning looking at other hotels. I'm not particularly fond of Excaliber but would take just about anything over CC.

You seem to have not heard of Circus, Circus before. Was this booked for you be an overseas operator? Just curious because I know they book a lot of Brits there.

Here's the rundown at Cheapovegas.com:

Good Luck!

Thanks for the info on Circus Circus. I checked into it and changed my reservation to Excalibur. I think we'll be alot "happy" there. The kids are gonna love it!
Your feedback and suggestions were right on the money! Thanks!

You might want to eat at the Cheesecake Factory at Caesars if you've never been. Large portions, kid friendly without being themey or cheezy (no pun intended), good food for a chain, fair prices.

I have been to Vegas 3 times and I don't gamble so I have looked into other things to do. First of all I think that you got good advice to not stay at Circus Circus, it is out of the way, not convenient to other places and pretty tacky.
I think these are some things the kids might like. MGM has the lion habitat and sometimes they have cubs which for a price you can have your picture taken with and get to pat them (momentarily!). I love animals so I loved that. Mirage has the tigers that you can look at. Also at the Mirage is Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden. There is a price but I thought it was well worth it. It's an oasis in the middle of Vegas with dolphins, white lions!, tigers and other animals. It was great. If you can get to the Strasosphere, way down the Strip from the Excalibur, there are some real scary crazy rides up at the top. We went up, didn't ride the rides, Yikes!, but watched others. Fun. There are a couple of things that you can see outdoors free at night. One is the volcano outside the mirage and the other is the pirate ship sinking outside at the Treasure Island. Of course the fountains at the Bellagio are beautiful.
I also love the Cheesecake Factory in Caesar's and it is right behind the free show with the statues.
I think you are staying just the right amount of time with kids, any longer would be too long in my opinion.
Have fun.
