Las Vegas with a toddler
My husband travels a bit on business and we like the idea of tagging along to take advantage of amenities while he is in his meetings. I personally have very little interest in Vegas, and would not normally consider taking children there, but I am wondering if we stayed close to the pool, and the shopping areas if this would be an ok trip for us? He's staying at Caesars (he usually does Mandalay Bay - why not this time I have no idea). Am I nuts even thinking about bringing a toddler there, or can we hide out at the pool and keep away from the inappropriate stuff.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Some people would think you are absolutely off your rocker. With all of the smoke and loud noises, it's hardly a place for kids. Yes, the pool will be fine, but you've got to walk through the casino to get to the pool. (Again, smoke, noise, etc.)
Shopping areas - especially Caesar's - mimick your typical mall, so you'll be fine there.
But the casino - and its inappropriateness - is unavoidable. The hotels are designed to move you through them. So I will be honest and say you WON'T be able to avoid the inappropriate stuff. (Caesar's has a lite strip bar called Shadows...appopriate for toddlers? You decide.)

There was a big effort made several years back to make Vegas into a family vacation destination. As a result most hotels have very nice pools (the Mandalay's has surf, sand and "rivers" you can float innertubes on). You might feel cheated though at night since Vegas is a nightlife oriented destination. I wouldn't want to hire a babysitter in Vegas but maybe others have done it and I'm just a worrier. There are things to see and do that older children get a kick out of (animatronic statues at the Caeser's Palace shopping mall, Treasure Island's pirate ship, Bellagio's dancing water fountains might enchant your toddler).

Thanks for the info - as Vegas Virgin (I always swore that I wouldn't walk into a casino until I could afford Monte Carlo) I didn't realize that you had to go through the casinos to get everywhere. That will probably make it a definite "no go" for us. Not worried about night life - I wouldn't leave him with a strager, so we'd be in watching tv and getting to bed early. I guess we'll just sit this one out.

I think you will be fine taking a toddler to Vegas. Most of the hotels have elevators that go right to the exits you probably could arrange not to go through a Casion to get to the pools.

And the pools are open all year round at Caesars.

I'm sure your toddler will enjoy just walking around the strip with Mom and Dad and seeing all the buildings that make it look a bit like Disneyland.
