Outrigger Waikiki or Moana Surfrider?

I thought I had my mind made up with the Moana Surfrider for our 4 night stay in Oahu, but am now considering the Outrigger Waikiki as well. I really love the old Hawaiian charm of the Moana (at least from the pictures I've seen!), but the Outrigger seems like it might be a better value. Outrigger is also rated higher on Tripadvisor reviews. Now I am completely on the fence and don't know which one to choose!

I know they are right next to each other, so we could visit or dine at whichever hotel we don't choose.

My husband and I will be traveling with both our teenage sons an his parents. My brain says to save a few bucks and go with the Outrigger - for only 4 nights we probably won't be spending too much time in the room anyway. My heart, however, is voting for the Moana! Not only is it so beautiful, but the atmosphere seems a little quieter and more relaxing.

Does anyone have anything else to add that might help me make up my mind?

We have stayed at the Outrigger twice, and will always return there because we love it so much. The rooms are great, the views are magnificent, the 2 restaurants there are excellent (Hula Grill and Duke's), and the service is friendly and efficient. It's great there!

We have not stayed at the Sheraton Moana, but we have walked through it as it is right next door. It is beautiful and lovely and romantic. However, I have always read negative comments about the rooms. As for the atmosphere being more relaxing and quieter, I can't imagine that, only because Waikiki itself is so busy and these 2 hotels are so close to one another.

Either way, they are smack in the middle of a great part of Waikiki beach, and you will have a great time, no matter what you choose!

When is your trip? We are off to Maui and Kauai in August....

We too really like the Outrigger, especially because of the spacious rooms.

We recently stayed for 6 days at the Moana. Great hotel. Our room was located in the tower. It was very large, clean and modern. There is no better place to have a sunset drink.

Which ever you decide, definite have one meal at the Banyan Veranda restaurant at the Moana. Just lovely. Book for sunset.
