OUTER BANKS & MYRTLE BEACH

Hi,
This will be my first visit to the Outer Banks and Myrtle Beach. I keep reading negative response about Myrtle Beach being a redneck kinda town and am a little concerned about my stay since I'm ethnic. Has anyone had any bad experiences? Please don't bombard me with nasty emails. I appreciate all advice I can get. Thanks.

I would call MB a very Southern Resort town, meaning it is the place where Southerns go to vacation. I found the people to be friendly and I don't think being ethnic should deter you from enjoying MB. I am not very familiar with Outer Banks area. We were in MB visiting friends who have a place there. We would like to try Outer Banks one of these days. What I like about MB is there are acitivities for every age group. I found it to be a very family oriented town. There are also shows in the p.m. to see for entertainement.Alot of shopping, many restaurants. So if you go, have fun.

Don't listen to the people that dis Myrtle. It's a little crowded at times, but like the above poster said it has a lot to see and do and kids love it. Us grandparents love it too. I'm going shortly for a month....(after Labor Day and the crowds thin out!)I guess I'd better go see how red my neck is...

Deedee, I consider myself the complete antithesis of a redneck and we are leaving next week for our 4th year there. It is a great vacation spot for kids. Lots of mini-golf, lots of inexpensive restaurants, lots of go-carts, amusement parks and water parks. Yes, parts of it are a cheesy, so go to North Myrtle.

We stay at Kingston Plantation, which is very nice, more upscale, gated and nicely landscaped. I've seen people of all types of ethnic backgrounds there. I always believe that if you stay at a better place, you'll avoid the rednecks, and that's certainly the case at KP. Plus, it has a fantastic private waterpark that the kids will love(if you have any), and a gorgeous Sports complex and Health club. I wouldn't stay anywhere else except the Litchfield Golf Resort with is just south of MB.

When are you going? We'll be there from August 18-26th. I wouldn't be concerned if I were you.

Deedee,
I don't think you have anything to worry about. Myrtle Beach is a very family oriented place. North Myrtle is a little nicer and less crowded. Outer Banks-another place you have nothing to worry about. On my trip to the Outer Banks, I found some of the most friendly and helpful people. Where in the Outer Banks will you be visiting.

I find Myrtle beach to be quite a nice place. I've heard people say trashy things but I think they're a bit off their rockers!!

MB has a lot going for it and for all ages - there's so many shows to see - restaurants of all types - great beach - it's a very nice place.

Outer Banks has a very nice beach - not many restaurants - Jockeys Ridge (wow) and get to bed early. I've always found many more rednecks in Outer Banks.
