Outdoors near Seattle

In July my family (including 11 and 7 year old) and I will be in Seattle for 3 days. We are staying in the downtown area but would like to take 1 or 2 side trips for sightseeing or short hiking. Can you recommend some points of interest outside of the city. What about Olympic National Park? Thank-you

The Olympic Natl Park is quite a ways away for a day trip. I would suggest Snoqualmie Falls park. It is less than an hour from downtown, and has a great short hike down to the falls. There are also other trails around the area that would be good too. Another option is to head up to Sunrise or Paradise, both in the Mt Ranier Natl park. These are wonderful parks with trails and views that are spectacular. Paradise has some ice caves that my kids love. Have fun!
