OshKosh Airshow
My husband would like to attend the Oshkosh airshow this year. I am wondering if there are any nice areas within a half-hour drive of Oshkosh that would be good for a family --- hotel on a lake with a pool type of thing. Thank you.

If you haven't made your reservations yet, I don't think you'll find a hotel within an hour of Oshkosh! During the EAA, Oshkosh is the busiest airort in the world. Oshkosh is on Lake Winnebago; towns nearby include Neenah, Menasha, Fond du Lac, Appleton. The resort area of Green Lake is close by.

I just saw this and realize it is an old post AND the air show is in a couple weeks. Many people rent out their homes or a room in their homes for the event. I believe you can get names from the Oshkosh Convention Center. There are also Dorm rooms for rent, which are not ideal but are clean, close and might be fun for the kids. All campuses have pools. http://www.visitoshkosh.com/eaa.cfm
You might try finding a place east of the Oshkosh area... maybe try finding a room over by Koehler, Plymouth or Sheyboygan. It would be about a 1 1/2 hour drive to EAA from Sheyboygan, but you could spend time on the shores of Lake Michigan. Koehler-Andrea and Point Beach State Parks are wonderful places. Our kids always enjoyed the beaches there.
The East side of Madison might be another option. Again about a 1 1/2 hour drive to Oshkosh but a great place for a family vacation.

Have been out of town or would have responded sooner.
Reservations seem to be down at the hotels and other accommodations this year, so options still available.
We stay further away in Green Bay just because my husband likes to fly into that airport and avoid the crowds and would rather drive in each day. We made a reservation for several nights hotel and rental car (that is even harder than getting a room) back in April. Now when dates are almost here, I was cancelling some nights at the hotel to adjust to our final plans and saw that I could have still booked the same room at the same price just last week.
Rooms appeared to still be available in Appleton, though the price was high and there might be a minimum nights stay. The airventure website gives an overview of many lodging choices and possible vacancies.
