iceeu2: On Oahu, we went from store to store buying all the taro chips we could find, crammed them in a huge box and mailed it home...I guess that's some of the #'s I've been trying so hard to get off my backside lately!
Kealalani: Thanks for the link! I'll take her a print out copy of it!

Hey, OSB! Yeah, I think I was sitting across from you. I know I told several Hawaii stories, so you probably have have the right person in mind.
I'm not sure about heli flights in the afternoons. I think it gets windier then, so there might be a better chance of a the flight cancelling; but I'm not sure about this.

iceeu2 & keilani: I know you've been concerned about this old coot trying to do the Napili Coast kayak tour. Well, you can now put your minds at ease, as I have finally convinced DS to abort this mission!
Actually, he was looking at the jam packed itinerary and it dawned on him that we needed some 'chill' time and he said so...prime time for me to recommend ditching the strenuous kayak tour (which I really wish I was young enough and fit enough to do ...but maybe I'm not...and I'd like to be alive the day after!
So, everyone can take a colletive sigh of relief! Now, where is that Red Dirt Shirt factory...I think I just found the time to go there!

Ok. so here is my take on the Napali Kayak trip and the hike for that matter. Gerry my trike instructor put it in perspective. If you are in good shape and an experienced kayaker, head out early morning from Polihale and early afternoon the current will bring you back. For that of course you need the right vehicle to transfer rented kayaks.
When he and his friends hike/kayak they fly in fabulous food on the trike and have a grand feast, unlike the half starved hikers eating birdseed.
So, a couple of years ago I asked Roxy to give me full disclosure about the trip. She admitted that the last couple of miles she was hallucinating from heat exhaustion and paddling. Then you have to pull your kayak up on the beach and take a van all the way back to Hanalei. The whole process seems exhausting in a bad way. It is a bit of a boot camp and if the tide and current aren't cooperating it can be a nightmare.
Hopefully someday, I'll either kayak from Polihale to the first beach or two before the nazi kayakers arrove, or take a couple of days to do it right with a personal guid, as I have done some stenuous kayaking but an not all that experienced.
Didn't want to be negative, but now that you've cancelled, that's what I've gotten from my investigating the idea in the past!
Oh you will have such fun!!!!

Red dirt shirt place we like to go is down around Pt. Allen where the boat harbor is. Name of town may be Eelee or something like that. You can stop there on your way back from the canyon...it's just off the road.
