This old place does not have a good reputation. When I toured in twenty years ago it was in decay. Having fallen on hard times, it was sold at auction a few months ago: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...1_dige01m.html

I was just up on Orcas week before last and was curious about what's going on at Rosario so I stopped by...the mansion was closed but the office for Orcas Suites was open so I went in there. They are basically what used to be the hillside rooms at Rosario. They are now a separate entity under separate management--those buildings were not part of what was sold or were sold separately, as I understand it.
It sounded like some of the rooms had been renovated since they took over but not all, so if you do stay there, I'd request a renovated room as I know the rooms were getting raggedy before the sale.
There are lots of great places to stay on Orcas so I'd probably go elsewhere until things shake out a bit there, that's my two cents.

Twenty-five years ago we stayed at Deer Harbor Inn when it was a funky joint. The cabin was about $60 and the dining room served stuff like liver and onions $7.95 with soup or salad. Great location and loads of upgrades I understand.
