Opinions needed on my hotel options in San Francisco...

I will be attending a conference (at the Moscone Center) in San Francisco in early November; here are my hotel options: San Francisco Marriott, Argent Hotel, Renaissance Parc 55, Westin St. Francis, Sir Francis Drake. Which would you choose?

The Marriott is the most convenient to Moscone Center; my husband stayed at the Marriott last January and thought it just fine. The hotel is quite close to the convention center.

Agree with Underhill. We stayed there and it was fine and you couldn't get any closer to Moscone Center.

I have stayed at that Marriot and it's very nice and as already stated it is the closest to the Moscone center; are you more interested in the proximity to the conference or the "wow" factor of the hotel? Let us know what is important to you and maybe it will be easier to choose (although none of the ones on your list are exactly "losers" - you have nice choices.

I stayed at the Argent last year for a conference at Moscone. I liked the hotel -- good size room, nice furnishings, clean. Also really enjoyed the location - lots to walk to. Concierge arranged for a city tour on my day off and I was very pleased. Would stay there again.

Being close to the convention center is not a priority for me; I should have said that at the outset... So, Margo, what do you think?

Well, if not being close to the MC is okay, then book the Hotel Monaco.

Starrsy....The Monaco? WADDA surprise!

If you have only those hotels to pick from, I'd say the St Francis, in the old section. We've stayed at Parc, Marriott and St Franny's and enjoyed the older section of the St Francis.

Ditto TTess.

Then walk over to Gr Cafe at The Monaco for a cocktail. Heck...from the St Francis walk everywhere around UnSq.

The old section in the St. Francis is OK if you get a very large room. We've stayed in both sides and prefer the tower because the rooms are newer, larger, quieter and have wonderful views.

My stepdaughter has stayed in the older section of the St. Francis (due to a work convention more than once) and she always had very small dingy rooms. So if you decide on the St. Francis do check out what type of a room you will be getting.

Yeah. I enjoy and recommend small, dingy rooms with a lot of noise to all my friends.

Hi Kal, there are great rooms and not so great rooms at the St. Francis. My stepdaughter has gotten the not so great rooms..probably because of the government rate. Nothing personal dear one!

We stayed at the St Francis for a city conference and had a GORGEOUS room that overlooked Union Square. The city manage (who booked the rooms) had a room that was the size of a closet! Seriously - you couldn't open the room door all the way without hitting the bed! But I love it anyway!

fairygemgirl, I think my stepdaughter has been given the room that your city manager had, lol.

I am still upset about the "remodeling" that was done at the St. Francis, the lobby and replacing the Rose Compass Room with Mina's. Another lovely SF landmark that no longer exsist.

But there is still Lefty O'Doul's, right Kal?

Oh, Kal! I thought you were trashing my Monaco's rooms. Thank goodness you were referring to an earlier post.

Biggest room I've stayed in when in SF - Hyatt. Give me my Monaco any day/night!
