One night in Atlantic City
I live in York Pa and plan to drive to AC and spend 2 days and 1 night. York is about a 3 hour drive.
We don't really care for gambling but would like to spend a little time on the beach, do some shopping and a little sightseeing. Would like to stay near the boardwalk and the action and spend about $100-$125 per night.
Anyone have any suggestions as to where to stay and what might be interesting to do?
Does this sound like a good plan ?
Your help in this regard is extremely appreciated. Thank You

If you're going to the shore on a weekend, It will be difficult/impossible for you to find a hotel for$100-125 and be close to the boardwalk, whether in Atlantic City or another beach town (Ocean City, Sea Isle City). Rates go upward of $250-300 per weekend night, even at Days Inn. The Hilton (not on the boardwalk but a hotel shuttle ride away) sometimes has weekday rates for $125-150 in the summer--worth checking out.
Have you ever used Priceline? You should bid on Atlantic City area hotels only. YOu might find something for $100-150. Check www.biddingfortravel.com to see the hotels you might win, and what the recent winning bids were. THen go ahead and bid! (I'm an avid Priceline fan, I get amazing rates at incredible hotels and have never been disappointed).
Check out Craigslist.com to see if you can find something. SOmetimes people post casino hotel rooms (high rollers get 'comped' and sometimes 'sell' their free rooms for a night or two). I found a hotel room right on the boardwalk for an incredible rate for 3 nights through Terry ANderson ([email protected]). You can email her to see if she can help you out. If you don't have any firm dates in mind yet, even better!
Ocean City NJ is a 'dry' town (no alcohol served in restaurants) but has a boardwalk (just like AC), great beaches and an easy atmosphere. And it's only 15 minutes from Atlantic CIty. There's lots of small motels within easy walking distance of the boardwalk, and rates are a bit more affordable than AC. Google "Ocean CIty NJ Hotels" to get some ideas on where to stay.
WHat to do besides strolling the boardwalk? AC is a 'degenerate' town, it's not like Las Vegas....the casinos are the only nice things there. In AC there's a lighthouse, and further down the road in Margate is Lucy the Elephant, certainly worth a quick walk-through. You can take a 'shark' boat ride (fast ride in the bay/ocean) and in Ocean City, you can jet sky or parasail. You can drive down the coast through the stretch of coastal towns, just to see the different shore towns. In AC there are concerts, comedy shows, etc. Try a beach bar adjacent to one of the casino hotels--they often have live music some evenings and for the price of a drink, you can hang out. SHop at the AC outlets (right in the center of town) if you must. And definitely go to the White House Sub Shop (Mississippi Ave)--hoagies and steaks that locals and tourists line up for every day. If the line is too long, get take out and eat on the beach or in the little park across the street.
Let me know if you need further help.
