Ohana Waikiki Tower or The Breakers?

I just booked two reservations for four days in December. Now I need to decide which one to keep. We're trying to be budget minded but still be fairly close to the beach. I've read pros & cons about each hotel. The Ohana Waikiki Tower can be noisy but gets privileges at the Outrigger Reef. The Breakers is quaint, more personable but older and pool is cold. Has anyone stayed at either of these hotels who can give me some advise? All information will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Penny

Penny, We lived in Wakiki for 7 months and the best hotel is at the east end by the zoo. Quiet , reasonable and across the street from the beach. I think it is the Aston Wakiki beachtower or even the Park shores hotel. If you are going to be there Saturday or Sunday they have movies on the beach it is really neat.

Stayed at the Waikiki Tower last month. Yes, the street is a little noisy with the slider open, but I didn't have any problem with it closed. Paid $75 per night with the entertainment card discount and that's about what it was worth. Close to the beach yes, but otherwise it's nothing special. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing really great about it either. A decent place to spend the night. I never made it to the pool so I can't address that.

Have stayed at the Towers many times...just like EricoSmith stated...nothing special...

I ask for street side about 10th floor.
You can get a "peek-a-boo" view of ocean.

I particularly like the coffee shop...outside garden type...just a personal thing!.

Also I like the location...across the street from beach....close to Outrigger on The Beach...1 blk off the main drag.

Hawaii....it's all good!

Thanks for the info about the Ohana Waikiki Tower. I'm still undecided and am searching other hotel options. The Imperial (also on Lewers) sounds really good and reasonable too but there's no info on Frommer's or Fodor's about it. No one mentionned any info about The Breakers. They said they don't have non-smoking rooms but it they didn't think it would be a problem because everything is so open. Since my husband is allergic to cigarette smoke that kind of concerns me. I'm sure my two daughters (19 & 22) would like to be in the middle of all the clubs, etc. at the Ohana. Thanks again for the info.
