Mu husband has just booked the dining spot for our first night in NYC. It's called the 'City Crab and Seafood Co'...not entirely certain what prompted this reservation.....maybe just a last minute choice but I haven't heard a 'peep' about it on Fodors..I have some concerns....mainly the complimentary Birthday dinner...hmmmm? Would anyone know anything about this place.

City Crab is not very good on a stretch of streets with substandard restaurants.

Sorry.

But the name does remind me of one my neighbors.

Speaking as both a citizen of NYC for the past 10 years and a restaurant GM in the city...

I can clearly recommend this spot for out-of-towners. It is reasonably priced for city standards and has a great selection of fresh, quality seafood. The preparations are very standard and straight-forward which should definitely appeal to most visitors to the city. They have a decent wine list as well as a good beer list. Try to take advantage of the happy hour half priced raw bar (at the bar) whenever they are offering it.

And btw, a Duvel, a pot of mussels and a bowl of fries is probably the BEST mid-afternoon snack that one can have in this city... and they have it all...

City Crab is pretty popular and has been around for a long time. I don't think it's anyone's idea of a "great" restaurant, but the company that runs it also owns several popular, decent places to eat all over the city. If you like shellfish, you'll probably be ok, but there are certainly better places.

Tocqueville-expensive for dinner, wonderful prix fixe for lunch

Craftbar-Went during the last Restaurant Week, when many places offer inferior choices, but it was wonderful

Le Zie-Venetian cooking for an adult crowd

Mesa Grill-I am not a fan of Bobby Flay but this place is consistently good.
