Debi, Thanks so much! I am printing out the latest info.

I called the Inn of the Governors, which looks like a nice place to stay, and the rate goes down quite a bit on October 28, and it looks like we can get flights Oct 28 for 4 nights, returning Nov 1. That's just about two weeks later than we had originally planned. Do you think the weather would be about the same? The person at the hotel said all restaurants, activities, etc., would still be open the last week of October.

Hi Samsaf, the weather may be a little cooler and the trees may have lost some of their leaves. We've had rain that time of year but can't complain as they need the moisture.

Inn of the Governors is a great location so you should be happy with that.
As Debi mentioned, lots of threads for food. I think I posted a couple of links above but also read this:

www.sfreporter.com

for restaurants and other info on Santa Fe.
Also, this months Santa Fean magazine is featuring the chef's of Santa Fe's ratings on restaurants and favorite spots. Barnes & Noble should have it.

Have a great trip.

There's usually a reason [or 2] why rates go down anywhere. They go down after mid October for 2: first is that Balloon Fiesta in ABQ is over and second, as Sheila said the weather does start to turn after mid October.

IF you are wanting to do things outdoors, the beginning of October would be better. IF you are willing to accept that you might have to do more indoor things if the weather isn't good, then it is ok.

Usually here in the SW, there is a pretty big lull after mid October until ski season starts. Lots of places do close [restaurants and some small hotels and B&B's] during that time. Major places will be open.

Daytime temps
Highs at beginning of Oct = low 70's
Middle of Oct = high 60's
End of Oct = low 60's
Precip is about same.

This is a wealth of ideas! Thank you, Samsaf, for starting this thread, I hope you don't mind if I "steal" some of the advices. I am still thinking of where to go in October.

Thanks again! I think for the difference in price we are willing to chance the weather.

Now we're getting really excited about our plans. Beachgirl, thanks for the link and for the magazine info. I will go and try to find that magazine tonight.
