Ocean Isle beach or Hilton Head
My family and I are looking for a new beach area to vacation. We have been going to the Outerbanks and want to go somewhere different this year. This is a last minute vacation so I need some help. I've researched both places and they both seem nice. Which one would be the least crowded for the last week in August? It seems like the homes in OI beach are so close together, with the beach accesses very far apart. We will be traveling down from upstate NY with a motorhome and need to be able to park it at one of the homes on HH. I was informed that either you cannot park, or there is not enough room to park an RV at some of the homes. One homeowner on HH said that I could park it at Coligney circle. Is this the correct information? I am driving myself crazy trying to determine which would be the nicest place to go this year. Since I have never been to either place, I need your help. Any information you could provide for me about these two destinations would be appreciated. I would be eternally grateful for the input
THANKS!!!!!!

My family has had property at Ocean Isle since the 50's, so I am familiar with it. I have been to HH just a few times, so I am less familiar with it.
Ocean Isle would probably be less crowded. It is more of a "family" beach. The kids will be back in school, so less families there.
Do you know where you would stay at OI? I believe most beache accesses would still be fairly convenient.
I don't know about RV parking at either place.
OI would be more laid back than HH. Because there is nothing to do on the island but hang out on the beach. HH is much more diversified.
Either one you decide on will be a good choice.

There is a RV park/hook-up right next to the Holden Beach Pier (next island up from OI). Slowmoving is correct, HH is a more upscale/resort type vibe, while the Brunswick Islands (in NC) are much more laid back, family oriented type beaches. Less people, less condos & multi-family type dwellings. There are several other interesting posts on here if you do a search. I don't care for HH myself, but have been going to Holden Beach for 40+ years.

We've been taking our kids to HH every summer for a few years & my parents took me there when I was little. I've been the last week in August several times & it is nice - still people there but you are past peak season so the beaches and restaurants aren't packed at all. We rent a house through www.islandgetaway.com and have always been pleased. The houses are fairly close together, but the landscaping is always beautiful so you get the feeling of seclusion & your own little tropical paradise. Most houses have pools as well, which I didn't see as much when I've researched OBX. Lots of family friendly dining & activities on HH as well (but tastefully done without giant signs or billboards). If you do end up going to HH, let me know - I have lots of restaurant recommendations. Oh, and Savannah is a great day trip - less than an hour away!

There is a good chance that Hilton Head will have restrictions banning RVs from homes and neighborhoods. Hilton Head has restrictions on a lot of things.
Talk to a realtor in Hilton Head about this.
I know we don't allow them on our rental properties because at the condos they can't get into the parking garages and at the house on Pawleys, there isn't room, they suck up too much AC, and people aren't as careful about parking them.
