I will be taking my 2 nieces (6 & 14) to Honolulu. I am looking for a hotel/condo with a least 1 bedroom. The nice uncle I am, I don't mind sleeping on the couch. Any suggestions? Some factors: 1)rate/budget 2) on the beach not a necessity 3) good walking area.

Embassey suites are always good for that kind of lodging and reasonable too, try to find one in Waikiki. If not than think about adjoining rooms. Actually I would want them in the same room with me. Burglaries when people are in their hotel room are not completely unheard of in Hawaii. Of course not the norm but it happens.

Dam you are lucky to get their parents approval. My family is so over protective it is a wonderful thing to show kids a new culture, environment. I have introduced my nieces and nephews but only with their parents on the trip. You are going to have a ball!!!
I think kids appreciate Waikiki more than some whining adults that I know!

Look into renting a condo at the Ilikai. It is right next to the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Call the front desk and ask for the condo association on the second floor. You also want to be in the main building not the annex. I have gotten some reasonable rooms through this place, once with shogun (?) doors that separated the beds at night. Frequently comes with two singles and a pull out couch. We use to take the couch out and put it directly on the floor in some units. We went here for a couple of summers in the mid 90's.

PS private owners who operate outside of the condo association I mention offer significantly higher rates. Don't expect to find what I am talking about on the web. You can look at what private

Because of the savings and the regular clientele that comes to the ilikai you will be assigned a unit not sent pictures for selection the way you would a regular condo. You can pick the wing you want to be in though. Act quickly on any lodging if you are going during school holidays.

PS the ilikai is a four star hotel but that is not what the prices reflect through the condo association.

Please have a look at the Aston Waikiki Tower. For a much lower rate and an extra two blocks walk you could get a suite at the Ocean Resort.

Try the Aston Pacific Monarch - not deluxe, but has everything you need. If you stay on a high floor(above 18) you should have a nice view of the water from your lanai. It's about a 2 block walk to the beach. Try searching for owner direct condos - you can get a better deal that way.

The one bedroom suites at the Ilikai Hotel (Yacht Harbor Tower) are actually two rooms. Bedroom overlooks the marina and living room, which has a pull-out couch, overlooks the hotel pool or Hobron Lane, depending on which side of the building you are on. While the Ilikai's location could be better, it is not terrible. It is at the very beginning of Waikiki Beach and actually not on the beach but overlooking the ocean with sailboats moored out front. It is located one hotel over from Hilton Hawaiian Village, which is the first hotel on the beach.
