DeRobertis is rarely crowded and their pastries do not compare to their rival across the street Veniero's except for the cannoli and orange things. The people are nice and their usually at least one family member there. I am hopeful whomever takes the space over is respectful the wonderful 19th cent interior.

Now I'm starving and only a good cannoli will do. Too bad I have to wait one more month!!

OK thanks to all of the suggestions, I have a revised itinerary. Noted tours are purchased already. We did have a hotel SNAFU and are now staying at the Marriott East Side (Lex & 48th) I believe... vs Westin Times Square.

Fri: 11 AM 9/11 Museum & Tour; probably go on a cannoli expedition; Afternoon open for High Line; Book of Mormon is at 8. Will want to freshen up before dinner / show so now need dinner suggestions convenient to Midtown East?

Sat: 11:30 Original Greenwich Food & Culture Tour; 5 PM NYC Gangster Tour; 7:45 dinner at Gnocco.

Thoughts?

If you are staying at the Marriott East Side (and like steak), you may want to try dinner at Le Relais de Venise L'Entrecote at 52nd/Lex. It has a prix-fixe menu that consists only of salad, bread, and steak. Literally nothing else. And cheap wine. It's good and doesn't take reservations.

Thanks - I don't eat meat and mom doesn't eat much of it esp red. Not hardcore "vegetarian" - I can find something almost anywhere - since we decided to skip Carmine's Thurs night, think Italian would be OK for Fri.

Sorry, yes, you said that. There's a nice neighborhood Greek restaurant called Etjos on 3rd Ave between 34th and 33rd. Great grilled fish.

By the way for one of the best fish value restaurants in Manhattan try Taverna Kcylades. The venerable Queens restaurant has opened a branch in the East Village. We ate there again Tuesday and was spectacular. Grilled calamari was perfectly done and charred nicely. Three of us shared a branzino which was done to a turn. The portions are mammoth for Manhattan, so they encourage sharing. Service is friendly and the prices reasonable.
