I see that door now, ellenem. It isn't illegal for someone to pay for and stay in the room, you're not breaking the law by renting the space. The owner, Julie, has certain obligations to meet before she can legally rent the space, one of them being she has to be on the premises during your entire stay.

Is anyone close enough that they can check out this actual building? I looked on google maps for this address and it seems to show an empty lot. There is definitely a lot of greenery - but perhaps it is a garden next to a building. I can;t get it to show the actual ront of the building with an address on it.

nytraveler: It is possible you're looking at a photo of Clinton Community Garden. If you click on that photo you'll see a different street view of a tenement/apt. building. Zillow lists that address as containing a single family home but I have no way of verifying this.

I can't tell from the photo on google earth. Not sure why - I've looked at a lot of other buidlings and you can get a a clear view of front of building. It is possible that it is a garden - but that's what shows (plus the side of a tenement in the distance) for 441 West.
If it shows as a single family home - it's odd that the AirBnB offering talks about apartment. Not sure what this all is - but if it were me I would try to get further info. Perhaps they can ask the renter to send them a photo of the front of the building with the address showing.
