NYC Itinerary: Comment please

Okay, he’s my basic plan for our pre-cruise days in New York this week. We arrive Wednesday night and sail on Saturday. We’re staying at the Algonquin.

Thursday:
Head out in the morning to grab some breakfast and walk around the Theatre District. Once the box office opens at the Marquis we will hopefully be able to straighten out our ticket fiasco. If not we’ll head to the TKTS booth downtown. After sorting that out, we’ll take the subway over to Brooklyn. Spend a the afternoon walking around there, stopping for lunch somewhere and hitting Jacques Torres Chocolates for a treat before walking back to Manhattan over the Bridge. From there we’ll take the subway back to the hotel to get ready for our evening. Dinner at Becco at 6, theatre at 8, Swizz for fondue after the show.

Friday we’ll do a bit of walkabout to take in some of the sights around midtown before meeting our son at the hotel at 10 (he’s flying up from DC to see us). Then subway down to the Village for our Food Tour. After that I thought we’d head down and take a ride on the Staten Island Ferry so that we can rest our feet and have a chance to visit (my husband hasn't seen our son since Thanksgiving). After that I thought we'd walk around Battery Park and the financial district. From there we’ll head uptown so that we can see Grand Central and walk over to the UN Headquarters. We’ll take our time to walk around and have dinner somewhere on the way back to Rockefeller Center for our 7:50 Top of the Rock tickets. No plans yet for after that. What should we do with our 23-yr old son on Friday night in NYC?

Saturday it’s up early for a stroll up to Central Park. We’ll walk with our son as far as Bethesda Fountain; he’s spending the day at the Met. We’ll head west out of the park and catch the subway at 81st St. Back to the hotel by noon to check out and taxi to the ship.

Comments please!

I’ve really struggled with Friday. My husband would like to take a tour at the UN, but the only way to get there while it’s open is to go directly after the food tour, then back down to the ferry, then back up for Top of the Rock. But maybe that’s fine. I don’t know. Every way I looked at it seemed to always put me at Grand Central during rush hour. Any suggestions are always appreciated.

Maybe on Friday you can have dinner at Grand Central after the UN, or even after Top of the Rock?

are you dead set on Swizz? We had a really bad experience there with horrible service, and there's a much better fondue place if that's what you're going for. Dip is on 3rd and 30th and we love it.

just throwing that out there.

Thanks for the tip, nycgirl1. I was hoping to stay in walking distance of the theatre and hotel for dessert. But the menu at Dip looks interesting, so we'll consider that.
