NYC Hotel for family in Theatre District?

Need a few ideas for a family of four(with 2 teens) for April in NYC. The idea is to stay in the Theatre District as that is where they will be spending most of their time.I had thought about the Upper West Side or Chelsea which are my two favorites but sis wants a suite with possible kitchenette. Any ideas anyone? She thought $250/noc but I suggested upwards of $300 to be realistic.

Is that really where they'll be spending most of their time - or do they just think so?

If that's what they really want check out affinia.com - a bunch of well-rated moderate hotels with a variety of sleeping arrngements comfy for more than 2 people. Or - applecore group of budget hotels.

But - to tell you the truth at that time of year you might be better doing 2 rooms via Piceline - and getting 4* at a discount.

You might try the Belvedere. I considered this hotel for my family when we visited New York but decided to stay on the Upper West Side instead.

I think they just think they will be in the theater district most of the time. So let's go for some other ideas
including the UWS. Thanks..

I don't think your budget is realistic for a suite. You might do better with two moderately priced rooms. There are a few moderately priced hotels in the theater district, and in April you may be able to get a decent deal, but $350 is much more realistic for a suite (and it could be much closer to $400). The suggestion from nytraveler to try the Affinia group of hotels is a good one. Most of these are all-suite properties, and they do have one hotel on east 50th, though I don't think they have anything in the theater district itself. Make absolutely sure you are getting a one-bedroom suite and not a studio "suite". You'll need the extra room with 2 teens. There is no way you will get a real 2-bedroom suite for $300 or less. You may very well do better with 2 moderately priced hotel rooms. You'll find more deals around the Herald Square area or Murray Hill than in the theater district itself, and that's where I'd suggest you concentrate your search. I live in Murray Hill and can walk to the theater district in less than 30 minutes; Herald Square is even closer. I think you'll find very little need for a kitchenette since you can get a decent cheap breakfast almost anyplace in the city, and given our grocery prices, you can almost do better eating out than staying in.

Did you check the Doubletree Times Square?

Easter week prices will be closer to $400 for a suite.

Also try the Salisbury Hotel.
