Now between the Hyatt and the Four Seasons
I asked for advice between the Westin and the Hyatt on my previous post, and the Hyatt won. So now I wonder...if I am already spending $100.00 more per night for the Hyatt, should I go for a garen room at the Four seasons, for just $25.00 more? I'll still be able to hear the ocean at night with the window open, which I love, and during the day I won't be spending time in the room anyway, although it is nice to wake up to the ocean view. (Can't afford ocean front there at $780.00 per night.)
So, The Hyatt in Kaanapali, or the Four Seasons in Wailea? Please help. This is my first visit to Hawaii.

Elaine,
Just an FYI about the 4 seasons reservations. The 5th night free promotion that they have running right now will save you signicantly compared to the rental car package. I am going for my honeymoon in December, and it's almost a $1000 difference between the two packages for the same dates. I rented a full size car for $250 through orbitz, and saved tons of money. Good luck.

I know people told you that the Hyatt was very nice, but IMHO it is getting very rundown. I was just there a couple of months ago and the room was filthy and falling apart. It was an ocean front room too. It was disgustingly filthy, caked with dirt, cracked marble and the tub was black it was so dirty. The wallpaper was peeling off and the seams were stained. Management did nothing about it and wouldn't move us. The Hyatt has seen better days and needs a re-furb desperately. The grounds are beautiful, but that's it.
The FS Maui has just been re-furbed and is lovely. The customer service is impeccable and no request is too big or little. The garden rooms are further in the back, but they are beautiful. There is no question that the FS wins this one hands down.
Keep in mind that this fall they are tearing up the main swimming pool. It will be very noisy. After they finish the pool next year they will also be charging for cabana's. The new pool will be adults only. The childrens pool will be the small waterfall pool. I got this information from someone who has worked at the FS Maui for many years.
Good luck with your decision. It's tough to find just what may be perfect for you.

Thanks everyone. We have opted for the Four Seasons and have cancelled our reservations elsewhere. We have given up oceanfront rooms at the other hotels, but I think it will be worth staying in a garden view room to be at the Four Seasons.

If you have the chance, you might have a meal at the Sea Watch Restaurant at the Wailea Golf Course. It is not your typical golf course restaurant. The food is great and the views breathtaking. We go there every trip whether we golf or not!

Stayed next door at the Grand Wailea and HOW we wished we'd stayed at the FS! If it makes you feel better, our ocean view was gorgeous but as soon as the sun begins to set it was absolutely blinding and we had to close our drapes until just before it went down every night.
