GRAND WAILEA OR HYATT REGENCY WHICH IS NICER

I will be going to Maui in February with my family (husband and kids 9 & 12) We have been several times and we were thinking of trying the Hyatt on Kaanipali Beach this year. We have stayed at the Grand Wailea in the past. Has anyone stayed at both that can give me an opinion or comparison. The rooms at the Grand Wailea are almost 200 sq.ft. bigger, but a lot of that may be in the bathroom. I have read on this list and other places that the Hyatt is really nice. My kids really like the pool and slides at the Grand Wailea but my husband and I are getting a little tired of it. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Give the Hyatt at try. My family loved
it. It's not so over the top as the GW - but is extremely nice for families.
We loved the pool with the water slide
and the swim up bar. Not as crowded as
the GW pools either. Really lovely grounds and our room was nice, clean and spacious. Nothing fancy - but nothing at all to complain about. I think you will like the Hyatt. It also has a good location for Lahina.

If you are just comparing rooms, the Hyatt is not as nice as the GW.
If you are comapring pools, the Hyatt is also less desirable.
The GW bothers me because it feels to Las Vegas to me, but the Hyatt bothers me because it's so old and dated.
Other than the Four Seasons, the only hotel I have liked on Maui is the Kea Lani, but it was awhile since I was last there and recent reports say it may be getting a bit worn.

The Hyatt was in the process of redoing part of their pool to make what appeared to be an awesome kids area. There is already a lava tube slide. The renovation was scheduled to be done in January,2003. We loved staying at the Hyatt and would recommend it.

Just stayed at the Hyatt from 11/29 to 12/8. I'm very particular about hotels and I loved this one. It was spectacular. The grounds and pools aren't as "over the top" as the GW, but they are outstanding. New kids pool looked great too. Should you decide on the Hyatt, ask for a corner room in the Napili tower at check in. Large rooms with 2 balconies, one with a view of the mountains and the other with the view of the pool and ocean.

Was told by former work colleague that Embassy Suites just north of Kaanapali is well set up for kids... she was a regular visitor there. Enjoy.
