Need Answer quick! The Whaler vs Hyatt (see below)
We (5 adults; 4-girls, 1-guy)are going to Maui for a friend's wedding and are splitting lodging to save $$! We have reservations at the Whaler and have an opportunity to get approx the same rate at the Hyatt. Whaler is a condo w/ kitchen, 1 bedroom/2 bath. Hyatt I believe is a standard room. Will be spending 3 nights there due to a friend's wedding.
Should we stay with Whaler that we cancel or go for it and get Hyatt and not have the option to cancel? Need to know ASAP. THANKS in advance!

We've always stayed at the Whaler (except for one year at the Sheraton), and like it a lot. If you can get a corner room, it'll be bigger, and the view will probably be better, but they're all pretty nice. Most rooms have little log books in them, for visitors to write in. Read them. You'll get some good advice re. restaurants and entertainment.

The Hyatt is probably the nicest place on Kaanapali Beach, but it will end up costing you. At a condo, you have a kitchen. A glass of wine is about $2 when you get it from the fridge. It is about $11 at the Hyatt. Food is VERY expensive also, and rooms are pretty small. No way 5 of you will fit in one room. If money is the object, I'd stay at the condo, and stroll over to the Hyatt to check out the grounds. Otherwise, it would be Hyatt hands down, and I'd only do 2 to a room.
Anyways, Hawaii is so awesome, and there is so much to do at Kaanapali, I'm not sure it really matters.

Would definitely only stay at Hyatt if you're booking at least TWO rooms. Also, if you're headed there soon I've read that Hyatt is renovating its pool area so part of it may be under construction -- check before you confirm. I loved the Hyatt and this would be my perference since I don't care to have a kitchen for cooking, etc. Also, I had a small fridge delivered to my room at the Hyatt at no additional cost when I stayed there in April. We purchased beverages (wine/soda) and snacks off property and saved quite a bit. Enjoy.

4 girls + 1 guy + 1 bath=disaster!! LOL Don't you think?
I don't know the Whaler, but the Hyatt is pretty darned nice. However...1 bath? It might take all the time you've got there for the 5 of you to get ready for the wedding!
Though I'm not sure of this particular hotel's policy, 5 to a room is likely to be over their limit as well, so unless you do two rooms, you'll be paying more for the extra guest and be inconvenienced in the process.
That kitchen with fridge sure is an advantage when trying to save $$$. Though I'm sure it's done, you might feel a little awkward walking through Hyatt's lobby with a cooler!
I'd stay with the Whaler but as Fred said, at least see Hyatt's grounds. They are spectacular.
