North Carolin Coast Charming stopover

Driving south and looking for a charming town to spend the night somewhere between Virgina Beach and the North/South Carolina Border. Maybe a pretty B&B. I want to stay between 95 and the coast when I'm driving. I'm coming from Lewes DE that morning.
Any sugestions would be appreciated. I don't know any of the towns in that area.

Either Edenton, Washington or Bath. They're all interesting historic towns and should have nice B&B's in all. Edenton is the larger, Bath the smallest. Bath is the oldest town in the state.

Wilmington has some nice B & B's right downtown & is easily accessible from 95.

Bath has a B & B called the Inn on Bath Creek. Rooms are $ 130 a night. As an aside, I very much like that part of Carolina but I can see it becoming a retirement haven as the Baby Boomers retire. The only ugly part of the area is the gigantic phosphate factory on the other side of the Pamlic River near Aurora.

Thank you for your suggestions. Actually just last night I made the decision to go inland after VA Beach and spend the night at Abingdon Manor in Latta SC just below the NC border. I will save your suggestions for the trip in the spring. That trip we thought we would go to Charleston and stay close to the coast, see the outer banks, etc. It has been such fun since we started this. Seeing all of these beautiful little towns that we used to fly by. Thanks again.
