NO St. Louis Cemetery No.1

My husband and I plan on visiting the cemetery during the day on our own. Do they have any maps indicating where certain famous people are buried in the cemetery or do we pretty much have to roam and find them ourselves?
Thanks

PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE do NOT roam the cemetery by yourselves!!! I live in Louisiana and St. Louis No. 1 has several famous people, including Marie Laveau, the Voodoo queen. I also believe the grave yard scene from Easy Rider was filmed there. Because it is famous and a magnet for visitors, thieves like to hide between the raised graves. The cemetery is also close to a rough housing project area. I go to New Orleans often, but I would not go there by myself day or night. It is a facinating place and I strongly encourage you to go with a tour group.

It has been a long time since I have done a tour, but I believe the National Park service has a tour. Admission to the cemetery was free. You could also contact the New Orleans tourism department and get information on other private operators.

I really WOULD like to take a tour of the cemetery, however we are having trouble fitting it into our plans. Most of the tours I see depart at 9a or 10a. Does anyone know of a tour in the late afternoon?
Thanks.

The Historic New Orleans Walking Tour Co has a tour of St Louis No 1 at 1pm.

I don't know if 1pm will work. We don't arrive in NO until 11:30am Friday. Saturday we have another tour planned for most of the day, and Sunday we have reservations for brunch at Commander's Palace. Monday our flight leaves at 12n. See my dilemma?
Please help if possible.
Thanks.

The latest tours at St. Louis #1 start around 1pm as the cemetery closes late afternoon. Contrary to popular belief, there are no "night tours" of this cemetery.

Looks like a cemetery tour may not be in the cards for you this trip. Maybe you'll just have to go back another time

I think you may be right. There is just so much to do, see, and eat. Thanks to everyone for their replies.

My husband and I spent 6 days in New Orleans a couple years ago and didn't manage to see everything we wanted to. I've been wanting to go back there since the minute our plane took off to bring us home!

J Correa: We feel the same way - we've gone to N'Awlins the past 8-9 years and each year think it's the last until we hit the plane going home.....pretty soon one of us will say, "You know what we forgot to do this time....". Needless to say, we'll be there in exactly 3 weeks and are just as excited as the first trip - making it even sweeter are a couple friends that couldn't go this year but want to go in 2005. What kind of friends would we be to say no now?
