NO hotel - need help please

I'm looking for a nice hotel in FQ for our anniversary. Trying to choose between: Maison Dupuy, Le Pavillion, Omni Royal, Astor Crown, & Iberville Suites. I've read both positive & negative reviews about each. Pls. help!

Thanks Jannik. Sounds good. I just found a good deal on Hotel Monaco, not in FQ, but have read good reviews.

I stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans in August and thought it was great. Perfect location, great service. The only drawback for some people would be the rather small room, although that didn't bother me a bit. Got a fantastic price through Priceline and couldn't have been happier with my stay. Have a great anniversary in NO!

Neither Monaco or Le Pavillon are in the FQ but are close enough to walk there with no problem. Monaco is a wonderful, newer boutique hotel, Le Pavillon is a grand older property. What about the W French Quarter or W New Orleans? Very trendy, very posh, with featherbeds and other wonderful amenities. Their slogan is "whatever, whenever" to emphasize their personal service - if you and hubby want to take a bath in chocolate milk, just ask.

Have you stayed at the Monaco OfftoAfrica? I've read a lot of good reviews & looked at their website. What about the area around the hotel? Is there much to do? Is it safe to walk at night? This is our 1st visit to NO, so I don't know much, other than what I've been reading in travel books.
The W would be nice, but rates are really high for Oct. We'll be staying 5 nights, & I'd rather spend money on food, drink, & entertainment.

I live in NO and haven't had the chance to stay there, but I work in a tourism related business and toured the hotel and found it lovely. Have also eaten at Cobalt, the sister restaurant operated by famed local chef Susan Spicer and it's GREAT. As I said, it's not IN the French Quarter, but very close walking distance. Maybe 3-4 blocks. Downtown NO in that area is certainly not as populated as NYC after 6 on weekdays, but as safe as you can get in any city, and a very quick cheap taxi ride if you're nervous. I don't think you could go wrong staying there unless you really want to be right in the FQ.
