Nightlife in San Francisco
So we were discussing yesterday the things we never do and regret and one thing was going out at night and seeing live entertainment. OK lets face it we were watching the Olympics and realize that we were in Italy last summer and never hit one nightspot with live entertainment. We will be in San Francisco in a week and would like to see some live entertainment. Any ideas of where we should go. We are a pretty young, we think, mid-fifties heterosexual couple. Suggest away. We could use a little spark in our life. So excited to visit San Francisco.

There is a funny show called Beach BLanket Babylon. It is unique to SF and you should buy your tickets before you go. It is located in the North Beach area of the city. We thought it was very funny. It can be a little dirty and it is definitely silly. (We are early 40's-heterosexual)
There was another place that was right next to our hotel. It is called the Tonga room and it is in the Fairmont (?) hotel I think. We were at the Stanford Court across the street. (Nob Hill) Anyway, it is like a tiki bar setting. You can drink the tropical drinks and then at night they have a show where it rains on stage and then the band comes out. It is very unique. We weren't there late enough for the band, but it rained every 15 minutes!! I think it would be a fun place for a drink.
Other than that, we were with our kids so we saw the Beach blanket babylon on Sunday afternoon when they allow kids and we arrived before the band and went home early from the Tonga room.
Hopefully there will be more suggestions out there!!

Hi Sprig, I think a lot of times one gets so busy with the details of life that don't go out to enjoy live entertainment. Vacation time is the perfect time to do that!
If you go to the SF Chronical website (www.sfgate.com) and click on Entertainment which is on the left side of the screen under "Main Sections" you will find a lot of info that will no doubt be of interest to you two.
Have a fun time in SF!

Another vote for Beach Blanket Babylon but if you do go book it EARLY...if you like satire and great fun you will not regret this and it is definitely unique to San Francisco (and don't worry..if you do go you will still go to Heaven).
