Catholic Church near the Lower East Side Tenement Museum

I want to go to mass beforehand and then go to this museum and I called the museum and they were less than helpful...

Anyone know the closest one?
Also, thinking of going to Rosario's Pizza afterward....anyone been there?

All help is much appreciated!!!!!

Don't know if it's closest, but St. Patrick's Old Cathedral on Mulberry is pretty interesting - it dates from the early 1800s. I believe they have several masses each day.

I would agree that Old St. Patricks is probably the closest church, and has some great history. There is another Catholic church on Mott St that has mass several times a day, (some in Chinese) Old St. Patricks is just south of Houston St on Mulberry. I have always wanted to get into the cemetery there, must be really interesting.

Our Lady of Loreto is about 4 blocks away, on Elizabeth St. The rectory number is 212-431-9840 and they can give you the schedule. The Archdiocese of NY has a list of all the parishes if you are looking for another one.

the website www.masstimes.org lists churches around the world by location. If you put in an address it'll display all catholic churches nearby and also list mass times and contact #'s.

Our Lady of Loreto is 7/10 of a mile from the Tenement Museum.

Old St. Patricks is...7/10 of a mile from the Tenement Museum.

Mulberry Street is not all that close to the Tenement Museum

It's 7 blocks, for goodness sake. It's a brisk walk at worst.

Other Catholic Churches on the Lower East Side:

St. Teresa's, 16/18 Rutgers Street
St. Mary's (3rd oldest in NYC), 440 Grand Street

I think any of those seem suitable. Check in advance for the times of English-Language Masses.

QC: So it is 7 avenue blocks from Mulberry to Orchard (I am taking your world on this.) It's not a long walk to you, or to me, but the poster should be aware that it will take 15 minutes or so to walk there. Sorry you got upset by my caveat.

It is NOT 7 Avenue blocks. Blocks are much shorter downtown. It's 7/10 of a mile, even the elderly or handicapped can make that journey with rest stops.

Have you ever been below Canal?

Fine...it is still 7/10 of a mile and not next door and I think the poster should be aware of this. And yes, since you asked, I have been below Canal a few times.

The OP did not mention that mobility was a problem, so I would think that a 7/10 mile stroll would not be an issue.

J62 - handy website!
