I prefer it is walking distance or inexpesive taxi ride away. Must have nice pool.

my favorite and is pretty much across the street is the hilton gaslamp - can't remember if they had a pool. right next door is the marriott and they definitely have a pool.

Marriott Marina. I believe it has a pool but am not positive

Marriott Marina does have a large pool area and is within walking distance (it is right next door).

And on the other side of the Convention Center is the Hyatt, also with a pool.

adding to this - I prefer the Hyatt over the Marriott in these locations. I usually stay at the Marriott due to have "points" there and using it for free stays but imo the Hyatt is a nicer property.

how is the omni?

I have never stayed at the Omni but I believe that is the hotel right by Petco park? It looks great.

Well, just to add to this mix, I have stayed at both the Hyatt and the Marriott and I think the Marriott is a "nicer" property and I think the pool is definitely better than the one at the Hyatt.

I found the service at the Marriott to be much better than what I got at the Hyatt, too, and it is closer to the convention center.

I have stayed at the Omni in downtown San Diego, and it was awesome. I was going to recommend it even before I saw your reply asking about it. If you're not a Select Guest member, join for free on their website, and you'll be treated like a VIP upon arrival. I'd never stayed at an Omni before, but when we arrived, I stated my name, they handed me my key, and we were on our way to our room. No lengthy check in, no credit card swiping, no hassle....

What is the best way ($) of getting to the Omni from the airport.......hotel shuttle or cab? Thanks.

Cab will be around $15. Not sure about the shuttle
