Does anyone know anything about either the Seaview Inn or the Sea Whale Motel in Middletown/Newport? We are going in July and think we have it narrowed down to one of these two. I can't seem to find a review anywhere on either one and was wondering if anyone has any experience with either one?

While we've never stayed at either, we have seen a room at the Seaview Inn and it was fine if all your intersted in is a place to sleep. Also this motel is set up on a hill away from traffice and not five steps from the main street like the Sea Whale.

If you plan to go the beaches while your here........go to second in Middletown because first beach in Newport often has that nasty, smelly red tide.

Like the above poster I have never been inside but will comment on the location. Both hotels are not within walking distance to Newport (and frankly the Seaveiw is not within walking distance of anything) so you will have to hop in your car to all things Newporty. And in the summer parking can be a pain near the harbour, not impossible though. Both hotels are close to first beach; I agree with the above comment about water quality (which by the way is not "red tide" but red seaweed that builds up along the beach) but point out that the amenities on first beach are better than the other beaches, especially if you have children, and include a carousel, small aquarium/discovery center, and snack bar.

Anyway, the location of these motels is not bad, just not ideal for a Newport vacation.

Thanks to you both for the info. In our previous trips to Newport we have stayed at the Inn on Newport Beach (I believe at Easton's Beach?), so we have always had to hop in the car to get anywhere. Have never noticed parking to be a problem, but maybe we have been very lucky! We do not plan to go to the beach, we just like an oceanview if possible. Do both of these have ocean views, do you know? The Seaview Inn advertises oceanview and the Sea Whale says it overlooks Easton Pond. What is the difference? Unfortunately, cost is a factor for us (which is why we are not staying at the Inn on Newport Beach). Do you have any ideas of somewhere with a better location that is not extremely expensive? The Seaview and Sea Whale are in the $180.00-$220.00 per night range, and that is as high as we can go. I really appreciate your input.

The Sea Whale is at the bottom of a hill right near the "pond" (a man-made freshwater reservior, actually) and I would guess the only thing you be able to see is the pond itself. Now, even though it is farther away from the ocean, the Seaview is set up on a hillside, also overlooking Easton's Pond but high enough that you can see out to the ocean across First Beach. Based solely on the view, I would say you are better off at the Seaview. Actually you can picture this by going to http://www.innatnb.com/ which is the home page for the Inn at Newport Beach and has a photo of the Inn. In the background of the photo, about 3/4 the way up on the left side of the photo, is a long white building-that is the Seaview Inn! Look about halfway down the photo on the same side and you will see a smudge of water- that is Easton's pond. The Seawhale is located (relative to this photo) behind the Inn at Newport Beach about 1/3 of the way between the Inn and the Seaview. Hope that helped.

bc, you can get a harbor waterview at the Hyatt on Goat Island, and if you check around online, even though the top rate is sometimes $200-$300 per nite (and definitely NOT worth it), we found a supersaver on Orbitz about 1 1/2 yrs. ago for $99/night, we ended up with one of the waterview rooms with a balcony...there aren't a lot of them, but they are in the back of the hotel...perhaps you can ask specifically for that type of room. They also have a neat outside bar with meal service (alfresco) and water side.

The Best Western Atlanti Beach is on the little side street being the Inn on Newport Beach for under 200 on expedia. Some of the rooms should have oceanviews.

Thanks for all the info. I kind of agree that 4 days would be fine. We like to check out other areas as well. Am thinking about staying at the Inn at Long Wharf. Is this pretty centrally located? I like the idea of walking into town, but also having the car handy.

Try Newport Reservations (800) 842-0102. One call to them will save you a lot of time and energy. They handled our wedding and took great care of our guests. We couldn't beat any of the prices that they found. They did a great job of understanding our needs and alleviating any concerns that we might have had about choosing the right hotel. Good luck.
