New Yorkers - Looking for a great restaurant for Thanksgiving Day

We are spending Thanksgiving in NYC (midtown area). We are looking for some recommendations for a great / memorable place to have dinner on Thanksgiving Day in Manhattan.

I have heard that many places are closed on Turkey Day. We're not necessarily looking for Turkey dinner either.

Thanks in advance for any posts!

I always suggest Fraunces Tavern because they do serve a traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner and in a historical building which adds to the celebration.

Thank you! Where is it located? I'll check it out on Zagats and some other places....

It's located at Pearl and Broad Streets in lower Manhattan. Their website is at:

Click on restaurant for the information you are looking for .

There are a few recent (and not so recent) similar posts. Do a text search on "thanksgiving dinner in new york city" for some good information.

Last year we had a fabulous meal at Rockefeller Center. It was downstairs by the skating rink. It was called Sea Center Grill. Sat right at the window which was kind of neat, 10 feet from the ice. It was about 5:30 or so and was getting dark. Very pretty. You can go to Rockefeller Center web site and search.
Enjoy,
Duane

Sorry, it was called the Sea Grill, not the Sea Center Grill.

Thanks again! We actually ate at the Sea Grill for my birthday last year!! Sat right in front of the window and watched all the skaters fall. The food was not very good, but the ambiance (sp) was very unique and fun!!

I do not believe that Fraunces Tavern is still open. While steeped in histroy, the food was usually average.

Don't know if they are open, but you might try Gotham Bar and Grill, the Gramercy Tavern, or the Bryant Park Cafe. All are very good, although somewhat pricey.

If you are looking for something less expensive, you may want to try La Mangeoire. It is an excellant Provencal style restaurant on 2nd and 54th St. The food is usually excellant and fairly decent prices.

Thanks!! Price is no object. I have heard of 2 of the following 3: Gotham Bar and Grill, the Gramercy Tavern, or the Bryant Park Cafe. I will check into them!

Ryan, Fraunces Tavern is open although it was closed for awhile. It has undergone many positive changes one of which is the food. It is a great place to celebrate Thanksgiving.

A few years ago we took some out of town guests to The Cupping Room in Soho for T-day dinner. It was great, a reasonably priced prix fixe 5-course menu. The place is pretty, cozy, warm and not noisy. Try them, we liked it very much and so did our friends.
