I stayed here last month, and would LOVE to spend New Year's here:

This is in Lihue in the south. Do drive to the North Shore, too, while you're in Kauai -- it's lovely.

Have a great time!

Would help if you posted where you'll be staying. You don't want to be driving north to south or vice versa on NYE.

We will also be in Kauai during New Years. There will be fireworks at Poipu Beach area in the early evening. We plan on playing at the beach while enjoying the fireworks.

Alohaaaa,
We've been on Kauai for the past few New Years. We've seen midnite a few times. O

They seemed to be cracking down on fireworks the past few years on all the islands.

Maybe Vivacious vivi can give us a heads up on any events?

Check the Garden Gazette as time nears.http://www.kauaiworld.com/

I hear the whales are already being spotted???

48 mo' daze, baby!

I would enjoy a romantic dinner at a great restaurant. My choice would be Beach House because of the ambiance and food. You might then go to one of the larger hotels for after dinner drinks and dancing. I am sure by calling you can find out what is going on at the major hotels: Hyatt, Princeville, Mariott would probably be the best bets. How about a romantic walk on the beach at midnight with a bottle of champagne? Sounds good to me. Have a great time whatever you do.

I have never been on Kauai for New Years Eve even tho I live here. My kids have been here for New Year's Eve and always go up to Hanalei Bay for a giant blow-out beach party. But this would not be a tourist event, LOL.

Personal fireworks are permitted though, as Kal posted, the authorities are trying to crack down. I believe a permit is now required if you want to buy massive amounds of firecrackers.
You can buy reasonable quantity of fireworks at Walmart and have your own show on the beach.

Most of the big hotels will have lovely brunches and dinners. Public firework display in Poipu. Personally I wouldn't want to be driving long distances after midnight on Kauai that night.
