Need Place To Mend

My friend has recently been through some pretty emotional turmoil and would love to have a place on the Georgia or South Carolina coast to retreat to for some heavy R&R. She is from the East Central Georgia area(near Augusta) and prefers Florida, but doesn't want a long drive-- would prefer a 2 to 3 hour drive. A quiet, safe place on the ocean would be great. She would like to be able to stay somewhere that would allow monthly rentals and that is near restaurants and some shops.

Jekyll Island has that rare combo of natural beauty, solitude or dining/shopping depending on one's mood at the moment. Oh, and it's gorgeous too.

My first thought was St. Simons Island, but that may be just a tad farther than she wants to drive. Closer option, maybe Sullivan's Island?

If she's going off-season, there should be homes that will rent monthly (vrbo.com) at any beach location.

Thanks so much. Never thought of Sullivan's Island-- will check it out. She would rather go off season, so maybe she can find something there. Will look into Jekyll also.

She might try either Seabrook or Kiawah Island. I'm sure she could find a monthly rental there, either a home or a condo, especially through vrbo. Freshfields is between the two, with shops, a grocery store plus several restaurants. There are also dining options on Kiawah and at Bohicket Marina. Charleston is 45 mintes away. Nature and serene beaches abound. If she has a bike and can bring it or wants to rent one, Kiawah is especially suited. There is beach horseback riding on Seabrook. Both islands are gated and are extremely safe.
