Need info. on NYC hotel location

I am planning to stay at the Westin Times Square in the Fall and want to know if that is a safe location. I heard that it is very close to Port Authority. Are we better off staying a few blocks away from that? We want to stay near the theatres and like to walk around at night........

The hotel is on 42nd St, the busiest street in the TImes Square area. If you don't mind the ever present crowds and the bright lights it is fine and safe. It is closer to 8th Ave and the Port Auhority but that won't impact on the safety question. You can certainly walk around at night and every theater is within walking distance. There are other hotels in the area where the crowds are not as large and the lights not as bright. One that comes to mind is the Broadway Millenium on W. 43rd just east of Broadway.

Yes, you should be safe, but there are "safer" areas....and in any event, it's wise to always be alert when navigating NYC. Use common sense. If your instincts say "unsafe," then don't walk there...Pedestrian traffic is a good thing. Quiet streets seem less safe. You are certainly not staying in NY's most glamorous neighborhood. There are many comparable hotels in quieter, and safe, locations.

I would stay at the Westin with confidence, because it will be brand-new and probably beautiful inside. Yes, it is across the street from the Port Authority, not one of the city's beauty spots, so when you exit the hotel some of the surroundings may seem slightly scuzzy, but you will be safe walking back from the theater at night because the area is so busy and well policed. Because the hotel is new, and they have so many rooms to fill, I hope you are getting a great room rate!
