Did anyone stay at the Best Western Seaport Hotel?
What is your experiences at this hotel?
How far is the walk from the hotel to subway?
Is this hotel noisy? Is there any noisy from the subway or the bridge? I prefer more quiet place to sleep. Thank you.

I worked near the hotel for years but I do not know about the rooms themslves.

It is in a very quiet area since the fish market closed. It is about a 10 minute walk to the Lex Ave trains and will be fairly deserted on the weekends and after 5. The useless and ugly South Street Seaport is nearby but there are more restaurants in the neighborhood now.

That area is not especially noisy - but everyplace in NYC has ambient noise. If you're looking for the kind of quiet you get in the country - just accept you won;t find it anywhere in Manhattan. There is traffic everywhere, the occasional police or fire siren and commercial carters (trash collectors for businesses) do pickups in the middle of the night in order to avoid blocking traffic in daytime.

If noise is a problem, bring your ear plugs to stay anyplace in NYC.

I would say more like 15 minutes walk to the Fulton Street station. There's precious little of interest at the South Street Seaport, though if you stayed there, you'd be close by to purchase tickets at the TKTS booth.

There used to be a BW on W48th in Times Square. I stayed there approx 10 years ago but would not hesitate to stay there again. Only downside...rooms are very small

I believe Best Westerns are individually owned, at least in Europe, but belong to a larger system, thus the quality of one may not be indicative of another.

Best Westersn are individually owned - so you can get vast differences in quality, service and amenities. (BW if just a company that markets and does reservations for a whole slew of individually wned hotels worlwide.)

so some can b awful and others OK. And the same one can change hands and go fro one to the other.

But I would never reco Times Square to someone looking for quiet.

You can't bid specifically for any hotel on Priceline. The concept is you pick a location and a star level. Betterbidding.com has a list of the hotels by area/star level you can get. BW Seaport is not one of them. The Hampton Inn Seaport is a 2.5* in the "downtown/financial district" area.

You can determine the distance from a subway station by mapping the hotel on maps.google.com and then using the "search nearby" feature for subway stations.

I think Hotwire does not show you specific hotel name, but tell you price, zone, star and list of amenities. So try to match hotel name with amenity list in betterbidding.
Priceline is the one that should you the list price and hotel name, and you bid a price.
Am I correct or I am mixed up??

There are 2 parts of Priceline. One part is a regular booking site like hotels.com, expedia etc. where you do see the hotel name. That is not necessarily any cheaper than any other site. The "name your own price" side of the site is where you find big bargains and no, you can't bid on a specific hotel UNLESS it's the only hotel in an area at a certain star level that PL uses.

huh, mclaurie, you probably correct. Both Hotwire and Priceline require you to bid in the bline.
I try to understand how to use betterbidding.com but it is quite difficult to do search. For instance, it do not allow you to type in two characters such "3*" for 3 star hotel. I do not know how to identify certain exact hotel. Can you please enlight me? Thank you.

It looks like the BW Seaport is NOT a Priceline hotel. It would be listed in the rather large area of Downtown/Soho/Financial District and it's not listed. You will note the Hampton Inn Seaport is listed in that area and it's in the same location. BUT the Exchange Hotel is also in that same area (for Priceline) at the same star level (2.5) and it's NOT in/near the Seaport.

I am thinking to bid on the Chelsea areas: Holiday Inn Sixth Ave or the Hilton Garden Inn Chelsea for Oct 26 to 30. How much should I start my bid in Priceline?

3.5* is $276
2.5* is $279
both are way too much more than prices in Yahoo or Bing Travel.

I have stayed there several times as it is my preferred place to stay when in NYC. The rooms are nice and a great size for NYC, service is great, breakfast included and try to get a balcony room!

It really is only a 10 minute walk to the Seaport, if that. It's about a block and a half away.

There's an excellent and reasonably priced Italian restaurant on the next block, too, called Acqua. Highly recommended. The New Zealand pub across the street (across Peck's Slip -- can't remember the name) is also fun, if you like New Zealand beers and wine. Their food isn't bad, either.

The Best Western Seaport is $159 for a queen bed for 2 people or $169/night for a king bed or $179/night for 2 queen beds for 4 on quikbook.com for your dates (Oct. 26-30) They include complimentary b/f. Tax adds ~ 15%. Quikbook is a reliable website, doesn't require prepayment so this booking is fully cancelable. I'd book it and then if you want to try bidding on Priceline for something cheaper, you can.

Does anybody have any experiences on canceling a Quikbook reservation? Where can I find some references or info on Quikbook reservation cancellations?
My experiences was most web sites make it almost impossible to get your reservation money back.

It clearly states on quikbook whether you're booking a "book now pay later" rate or not. Book now pay later means just that. Your credit card is not charged at all unless you're a no show and don't cancel. http://www.quikbook.com/faq.asp#payment
