need ideas for short summer trip
Need some ideas for a short summer trip
out of atlanta.
Have already been to asheville and
north GA and chattanooga.
I am looking for a good city type
destination (and some scenery) that has
reasonable hotel prices.
Thought DC would be good, but hotels
are soaring during summer season.
Any other ideas?
THANKS

According to mapquest, it's 5 1/2 hours from Atlanta...and that depends on where you live in Atlanta and how fast you drive
There are no beaches within 4 hours of Atlanta.
I guess the closest beach would be Tybee off Savannah, but that's still around 5+, as are Jekyll, and the Panhandle beaches of Florida.

Hmmm...too far I think. Thanks, Starrsville. We were thinking of doing a last minute Memorial day trip with our 2 year old. Didn't realize beaches were so far! Would be up for lakes I guess but we don't really know which would be good for kids.

syd, I drove to Brunswick this morning and it was just a 4 1/2 hours for me. But, I live just an hour from Macon and it will take longer for you to get to Macon. I also took 441 South at Dublin and went secondary roads instead of the 16/95 combo. I was able to make GREAT time, but there weren't many patrol cars out.
So, you may be able to get to Jekyll in closer to 5 hours - but not 4.
I was surprised at how fast the drive was this morning. And, it was hot - 93 degrees. Wish I were there for a beach trip rather than business

Starrsville, Is lake Burton anywhere near Big Canoe or Blue Ridge? Heard a commercial for The Street of Dreams which is always fun and thought maybe we could stay near there. Any hotels you'd recommend in the area or is a cabin the best way to go? If cabin, do you know of any that offer access to beaches or are walking distance from town? (is there a town?)
Thanks, as always!
