Need help with family vacation destination this year
Not sure this is the right place for this question. My boys (23 and 20 yrs old) would be coming home in Christmas for 10-12 days. This is the only time we will be together as a family this year. Was wondering if we could go soemwhere out of state (NJ) for a 3-4 day domestic trip. Air travel is an option. I asked the boy if they like Orlando Disney. We have been there when the boys were young. But No interest now! Can you suggest a place - we love to walk, see one or two museums, go to the beach and try new ethnic food.
Thanks much!!!
Happy holidays!!

Do you count shrimp and grits as ethnic, lol? Charleston is beautiful at Christmas. The beach is too chilly for swimming, but walks are nice and the sun is warm. The Historic District is beautifully decorated for the holidays and the food is amazing.

First an observation - by "beach" in December do you mean an area suitable for swimming or just walking? It makes a big difference. To find swimmable water you need to go fairly far south and that means lots of flying and airport time (minimum 1/2 day in each direction) so you'll be spending a goodly portion of your 3 or 4 days traveling to/from your intended destination. Any place warm enough for swimming (during Christmas) week will be crowded, expensive and be relatively far as travel is concerned. Save those destinations for a trip when you have more time.
Instead consider going someplace closer to home. There's nothing wrong with visiting a nearby city (Boston, Washington, DC or Philadelphia comes to mind). Close in cities are reachable by car giving more "time on site" rather than spending time in airports and airplanes. You'll have access to museums, shops, points of interests, restaurants and you'll be staying in the hotel of your choice with all the amenities you choose. Best of all, you'll be away from home so it will indeed be a special trip for you and your boys.
Good luck picking your spot - hope the boys enjoy the trip.

RoamsAround you are so right! We dont want to spend time on the road and at the airport, specially with all these holiday checking. thanks to everyone. Its impossible to get air tickets now. We are looking at the local options now. Its so hard to take the young boys somehwere from thier friends or their own activities.
Happy holidays!!
