Nantucket Veranda House

Has anyone heard of the Veranda House in Nantucket? It's located at 3 Step Lane. They have a nice website (www.theverandahouse.com), but I can't find mention of it anywhere else (Fodors, Frommers, Places to Stay). It's not even located on the Nantucket lodging map that shows 61 other hotels/B&Bs on the island. It makes me wonder.

I'm not answering my own question, but I just thought of something. Could the Veranda House previously been called the Overlook Hotel? Other posters have mentioned the Overlook, but I haven't been able to find a website or listing for that either.

I went to the hotel's web site. To me, any hotel that doesn't have pictures of the rooms, front of the hotel, etc. is suspect.

Recommend going back to the hotel's website and clicking on "Hotel History".

As for photos, this is probably a very new and not yet completed website. (There was no website when it was named the Overlook.)

We stayed there many times when it was the Overlook Hotel and were very pleased. It was the best kept secret on the island. Moderate rates, nice (though not plush) accomodations, great location, and spectacular views from all those verandas.

I stayed in The Veranda House in August 2007. Payed 375$ for one night. It looks very nice and the staff is good. But I have to warn you! Both you or the other guests will have no privacy as its very noisy. I hardly slept as they were banging in the room above me. Stayed in room 3, just be prepared!

fluffnfold, I'm not familiar with the Veranda House, but I can highly recommend the Manor House Inn on Nantucket. The rooms and gardens are beautiful, and I love the front porch. The location is great, and I am so looking forward to going back one day. A link to their site, should you be interested:

Dear Elsimoo,
I hope you get back to the Manor House Inn soon because it is going to be expanded in a fairly radical and controversial way. I don't think it is likely to be the same in the future.
