Nags Head restaurants recommendations?

Any recommendations for good restaurants in the Nags Head area? We've never been there before and are open to any suggestions! Thanks!

We've spent a lot of time in Nag's Head and love it there. We've gone to the Tale of the Whale many times and Kellys as well and enjoyed both. Personally, though, I think all of those places do similar seafood dishes. I (being a dedicated meatitarian) like Jockey's Ribs, too. Our 'fancy' dinner for our last night is always Penguin Isle which is lovely and a bit more sophisticated than the others.

We spend alot of time in Nags Head and our first and last stop is always at Sam and Omie's for a real taste of the old Nags Head. You can't go wrong here, love the she crab soup!

Oh I love Sam and Omie's! I even have a couple of their mugs! Best for breakfast or lunch, I think. I've never had the crab soup but the clam chowder is delicious.

This also reminds me that you should go for a late breakfast or a lunch to the restaurant on one of the piers -- Jeannette's Pier, I think. Just a bacon and eggs kind of place but I love the atmosphere.

When we drive down for the day, we go a little bit further than Nags Head to Manteo. There you will find an inn called the Tranquil Inn which features a restaurant called 1587. It is awesome! Doesn't open until 5p.m. but is well worth it. Since we live in Virginia Beach, we drive down quite often. We've tried several restaurants in the area. and honestly haven't had a bad meal in any of them, but by far, our favorite is 1587. Here is the website:

I've been going to the Outer Banks for over 15 years & I just love it there.

My first choice is Colington Cafe. The restaurant is located on Colington Rd in Kill Devil Hills near the Wright Bros Memorial. Reservations are recomended (I always call 2-3 days ahead of time) their number is 252-480-1123. I've always had excellent seafood, and my DH is a meat-and-potato type, and he's happy with their steak. Be sure to save room for dessert. Its dressy casual. Here's their website:

Chili Peppers at MP 5 & 1/2 is good for Mexican food.

Enjoy your trip!

We like Bassnights on the causway to Manteo. Scallops for me. My wife just said she heard Bassknights burned but is being rebuilt.

jrbnrnc is correct about Basnights Lone Cedar Cafe being rebuilt after a fire. It's one of the old style traditional seafood platter kind of places. Hope they're back in business soon.

Ocean Boulevard in Kitty Hawk is a sister restaurant to 1587 and isn't quite as far a drive as Manteo. Excellent martini's and a casual atmosphere but an upscale menu. I love 1587 too.

If you're in Manteo during the day, stop at the Manteo Bookstore. It's very charming. Nice coffeeshop across the street, too.

Hi:

Our absolute favorite restaurant in the Outer Banks is Elizabeth's Wine Cafe in Duck (www.elizabethswinecafe.com). The tasting menu with wine pairings is excellent. They have 2 seatings reserve the second. It ia a great adult evening out, but have a designated driver.

I agree with the Penguin Isle recommendation. we used to go to Windmill Point but it's overpriced and the quality has gone down. Penguin Isle isn't cheap, but it's good and quieter than a lot of other places.

If you like Japanese, there is a great little Japanese restaurant in the Outer Banks mall right in nags Head (in the part on the side, by the Krispy Creme store). Very good, inexpensive.

We love Sam & Omies...especially for breakfast and lunch. Been going there for years.......a trip to Nags Head is not complete w/o at at least one meal there. LOVE Bassnight's Lone Cedar............great crab, etc. But, yes it burned down and I heard they will open in Oct. Collington Cafe is great, but you will need reservations. Have fun!
