Motorcycle trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway

We are in the process of planning a motorcyle trip across the Blue Ridge Parkway in June. We will be putting our motorcycle on the train in Florida and arriving in Lorton, VA. Want to start in Front Royal, VA and end in Cherokee, NC before heading back to Florida on the bike.

We would like to make stops for 1 or 2 days. In addition to driving the parkway, we want to hike to waterfalls, maybe stay in a riverfront cabin, whitewater rafting, etc.

We're looking to take about 10 days. Any ideas......or suggestions???

Thanks

Go through Deal's Gap on the way back to Florida...300+ turns in 11 miles.

Some of the best and biggest waterfalls are along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I suggest Crab Tree falls. Its beautiful! Virginia has also the top rated State Parks in the county. You can stay in very cheap (but very nice) cabins. Bear Creek Lake State Park and James River State are two I have stayed at recently. However those may not be near exactly where you plan to ride. But check out any of the state parks. You can book cabins through ReserveAmerica.com

I am not sure how familiar you are with Virginia but there are so many neat things to see. I have hiked many places in VA let me know if you want some more suggestions!

And you must stop at Michie Tavern, "The Tavern's dining room, the Ordinary, features hearty Midday Fare offered by servers in period attire. The rustic Tavern setting renders a dining experience rich in southern culture and hospitality for families to enjoy. Our southern buffet is based on 18th century recipes. Patterned after the southern tradition, many guests choose our bountiful midday fare as their main meal of the day."

Also you can order a VA waterfall trail book through barnes and noble. Its really handy.

For all the hoopla about Deal's Gap and the "Dragon" don't miss the much better Cherohala Parkway. Save time for the mountain roads in North Georgia.

well the trip was awesome. Didn't get to do much hiking, but the ride was beautiful. Actually made the loop from The Smokey Mountains to Foothills Parkway, "The Dragon" and Cherohala Parkway.

Hello,

My son who recently went through basic at Fort Knox wanted a motorcycle trip with his old man(me)on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We were going to leave North Ms June 20th and be gone for about a week. We were looking for good places to ride, hike, eat and stay. I heard the North Georgia mountain area was also great. Any suggestions appreciated.thanx.

sorry that I didn't see your post sooner. Hope that you were able to make the trip, and I'm sure that wherever you stopped was awesome.
