Mother-Daughter Overnight

I'd like to take my daughter on a overnight where we can have some private time away from the rest of the family to discuss some family issues. I was thinking of an overnight with a spa or something. We've seen several broadway plays so I was trying to do something different and maybe a spa would help relax her. Most overnight spas stress the romantic couples. Was hoping there was a great mother daughter kind of place. Any other ideas would be appreciated. This would be in early March. Thanks!

Where are you travelling from? You probably want someplace close to home. Especially since you are just doing an overnight.

Sorry. Thought I had posted in the NY forum. Live in NJ.
Was thinking someplace in NYC or NJ or PA? Within 1 1/2 hours. Oh, my daughter is 18. Thanks.

There is no such thing as individual forums for each state. All that option is for is to be able to search by whatever states you choose. I would head to one of the cities as there is a lot to offer for an overnight - be it a spa, show, formal dinner, etc. Philly or NYC obviously are the 2 closer cities.

When did you want to go. I liked Deerfield Spa in the poconos but it is only open April through October.

There are a number of hotels in NYC that have in house spas. Depends on your budget. The Affinia Dumont is a suite hotel that has a spa. Here's a link to a spa package

http://www.affinia.com/Special.aspx?...Fitness-Dumont

but you might be better off just buying a night at the hotel and buying spa services "a la carte".

spafinder.com is a website for finding spas. Without knowing where in NJ, it's hard to judge what would be close enough for just 1 night.

Thanksfor the responses. I'm a 40 minute train ride to NYC. I was just hoping that maybe people have visited a particular spa that they thought my DD18 would enjoy and feel comfortable in. Again, a spa experience was only an idea because we've been to several Broadway shows living so close.

I really like the Oasis spa in midtown. Or Bliss spa is pretty well-known.

What about just a girls overnight getting hair and/or nails done and maybe a makeup redo at Sephora or one of the dept. stores? We know nothing about you or your daughter in terms of tastes or interests.

Maybe just a night in the city and dinner at a fun restaurant? Another poster here recently raved about a fancy afternoon tea at Lady Mendl's with her daugther.

How about Bliss Spa in NYC?
There are so many possibilities in Manhattan... you are only limited by your budget!

I think the OP is looking more for a spa to stay at rather than going to the city and visiting a spa there--something more like a continuous relaxed atmosphere in which to bond/talk. If you go on www.spafinder.com you can look up different spas all over the country and see if any fit the bill for you.

CT might be too far for you, but the Norwich Spa and Inn is a great spot for a mother/daughter getaway -- I even think they advertise packages. You dont have to leave the facilities for anything-- the restaurant there is great. I have been tehre several times and often seeas much if not more women there together- mother/daughter, girls' weekend getaway, etc. For the extra hour drive, it may be worth it to check it out. www.thespaatnorwichinn.com .

I really love Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Mass. I went with my mom and I know they always have special mother/daughter rates. It's quiet and peaceful and a perfect place to reconnect or work out issues (plus get some excercise and pampering) My mom and I had a great time and I want to take my 18 year old daughter soon.

Mohonk Mountain - New Paltz NY - just about an hour from Bergen County NJ - wonderful Spa - very good mid week specials - access the entire facility with an overnight stay or Spa visit.
